It is an open secret in the industry that salespeople embellish their sales numbers. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the claims on the forum here.
When someone says they sold 2 or 4 or 12 or a truckload on a given day or week end, etc. is that real?
Is it a plague on our industry or all sales industries?
Just wondering. :-/

I believe the BS factor isn't industry specific but rather more to do with character. Most dealers here have the respect of others and therefor we don't question their sales figures when posted.
I don't believe there's a real benefit to posting BS figures as most of us have a pretty good idea of what goes on out there. They would only be fooling themselves...
Last week however..I did catch a fish THIS BIG! ;D

When I see other dealers at shows and they tell me there numbers I can pretty much tell if they are telling the truth or not on how many they have sold just by the amount of traffic of people looking for spa's. I believe most of the time they are telling the truth least the reputable dealers are.
There are a few however that will spout off they have sold ten on the first 2 days while possible not very likely.

As a spa dealer and from experience with dealing with other local dealers, those that spout really arent all that successful in turn, the numbers are exaggerated. Those that are successfull dont have to spout, their industry partners and customers take care of their ego for them.

Well if your referring to my saying that we sold 12 spas over the weekend...we really did.
It was a pretty unbelievable few days....I'm amazed and humbled by the whole experience, but I won’t talk about the religious outlook on it as that seems to be more offensive than guns, booze, porn and other things regularly brought up here so lets just say that I’m very thankful for the sales. :D
BTW, I rarely talk numbers but this was pretty exciting....Sorry if it irritated you. :(

no actually my record weekend was over 20 spas in the store but the cost of advertising and the work involved was unbelivable. We were in all the papers, on several radio stations and even did live remotes Friday, Sat, and Sun.
What made this weekend so cool was we weren't doing any ads or anything.....

I have to clarify something else....
My store is 15,000 sq ft right on the interstate with 120 feet of neon signs up against the road.
We typically have 25 to 30 spas on the floor and 3 to 4 salesman on duty every weekend.
We are set up to do business on a larger scale than many companies.

Yeah we sold 13 Hot tubs at the home show last weekend. Most we have ever sold at one show. It was greaaaaaaaaaat! :D

A man says he slept with 9 women...divide by three for the real number
A woman says she slept with 3 men...multiply by 3 for the real number
A spa salesman says he sold 3...again divide by three for the real number ;)
