Title: If there was ever any question...
Post by: Bonibelle on February 01, 2007, 05:50:35 pm
I know many on here, myself included, started the quest for a hot tub at the big box stores, like Home Depot...
Here is an example of what can happen...and why you are so much better off going with name brand tubs.

I hope this works  :o

Why Not, you can probably make this a link...I didn't know how!

For using what's commonly considered a generic term?

Most interesting is that they let them keep the tub for free.... as long as they didn't have to honor a warranty. Tells you how much confidence the mfg has in the tub. It's cheaper for them to give her the tub than to be saddled with fixing it when it breaks.

Actually, the company that INSTALLED the new hot tub didn't do a few minor thing correctly. This is all that APPEARS to have swayed the manufacturer to offer a refund to the customer with the understanding that there wouldn't be a warranty on this now "free" spa.

Me thinks there's probably a bit more to this story  ;)

I just want to be sure I am understanding this correctly.

They did replace the tub with an upgraded version, right?

And then they gave her the money back?

Or did they offer to replace it with an updgraded tub, but then just give her back her money?

jacuzzi = generic term

[glow]J[/glow]acuzzi = a Trademarked name ;)

That's what I got from it as well.

Well, I haven't been a Jacuzzi dealer for about ten years, but back when I was, they made it very clear that Jacuzzi was a brand name, and they expected us to protect it. They went around suing people who missused it - for example, a local Motel had a nice sign out front which read, "jacuzzi in every room."

A legal rep sent them a cease and desist order, that is, unless they could prove they had Jacuzzi products. And then, they wanted the name spelled correctly and a TM next to it.

I'm sure they don't have the cash to go around chasing motel signs these days, but as far as I know, nothing has changed. Jacuzzi is a registered trade mark, and a brand name. Spelling it with a small j is basically a typo.

I know that if you use "Jacuzzi" in your meta tags on a web site which is not affilitated with Jacuzzi.... well I'll leave it at that.

Within a few months to a year we were told that Jacuzzi is going to go after that very thing, not hotels and such.  But these low buget spa company's that use the Jacuzzi name to sell there spas, and direct internet traffic to there web sites.

Nice thing about COSTCO is they take their tubs back no questions asked. We have done MORE than a few. People have bought tubs at these Big Box stores then come into our store to get chemicals. While in our store a few have bought a tub from us and we in turn returned their tubs to Costco for them. ;D

You should put a sign up or take out an ad saying you'll haul thier Costco tubs back to Costco for Free so they can get thier money back with the purchase of a new spa from you.

I bet you would do well.  :D

I have had that happen at least a dozen times in the last 2 years.  And have probably serviced twice as many also.   If its a Jacuzzi less than a year old we will cover the parts charge them an 80 dollar trip charge and send the parts in on warrantee and collect another 60.00 for labor plus parts, only after getting an RGA from Jacuzzi to do the work. ;)

HOLLY COW! You came up with a FANTASTIC marketing campaign.....

Not sure you want a spa? Try a cheapo from costco. If you then decide you want a real spa, purchase one from us and will return the costco cheapo to costco for you for a full refund.

Needs some polishing, I know, but you get the idea.

Its not something I'd want to get in a habit of, but if it helps a customer out... Sure it looks funny when they see our vehicle pulling in to drop off a spa!

My take on the big box store tubs is much like cars. Not everyone can afford a premium tub. Someone has to drive a Kia vs. a Lexus right? As long as the purchaser is happy thats all that matters. As far as we're concerned as a dealer we won't even touch the big box store tubs from a service stand point. We could hire a whole other crew it seems to service just these customers. They are what they are. I had a gentleman in yesterday shopping me to see if he got a good deal on his GULF COAST. He got mad when I told him you have to complare apples to apples... :-? ;) ;D

I use to turn down all service calls on any big box store spas, then I thought hell they have to go/call somewhere to get it fixed like the competitor not to mention lost chem sales.

For us it is a win win situation.   Hey if they dont want the spa either we or they get it back to costco and we sell them a spa.

;) to be honest, I never thought we would have a Kia, but the Sportage has proven to be a winner and at least it  didn't take me 5 years to pay for it!

Actually that is true, Chas...I have a direct line to corporate! This is a funny story but when we were looking for a new vehicle for my husband, my son happened to be in the mall with his friends during a small auto show. He stopped in at Kia and they treated him like a potential buyer. They let him configure the car, pick the color and options.  He knew every detail and the direct comparisons to the other two vehicles that we were considering..the Honda and Toyota.
I thought that was pretty impressive considering he was a shaggy looking long haired 14 year old.  We were so impressed that we bought a Sportage the next Monday.  I emailed Kia to tell them that I appreciated how they treated my son and as a result we purchased based on his recommendation!!! I got a personal call from corporate with a direct phone number in case I ever has a problem or question.
Now that was pretty cool...If I ever do need to call them, I will but the dealer that we purchased from has excellent customer service, so I didn't feel like we were taking a risk buying a Kia.
I guess the American car manufacturers are getting the idea beause GM now offers the same 100,000 mile warranty....that should improve the economy by keeping the mechanics busy!  ;)

I would have made the same misinformed comment many years ago. Count me as a happy Kia customer with a Sportage 7 yrs old and topping 130k and still running like a champ. I remember when Datsun, Subaru, Honda and Toyota were also thought of as being junk. Guess who is laughing now all the way to the Bank. Hint it's not Ford, GM or Chrsyler.

Just bought my first KIA last week, got me the Rondo.  It is a 7 seater but not a van, even my insurance company didn't know what to call it, KIA calls it a UUV (Urban Utility Vehicle)
