Title: 2002 grandee bought it
Post by: jfish63 on November 11, 2006, 06:53:59 pm
ok call me crazy but I just picked up a 02 Grandee. It was not running and it had funky water in it (from rain and sitting). It was sopposedly working when it was moved to where I bought it from. I will need to buy the disconnect with the gfi's new filters and I will most likely replace the cover.
what do I need to do to disinfect it before it is used. By the way I got the cover lifter, the cover caddy, the steps and so far with moving it and placing it in the backyard $1200.

Wow, are you saying you got the tub with extras for $1,200?

From the title of your post, thought you might have a crystal ball. I wouldn't be around to see a 20002 year spa anyway.
No, I know you meant 2002. Congrats! You can buy the Panel from one of us or Electrical Wholesalers. If you need anything let us know. Open you IQ box, wiring schematic is on the back of the cover.
A Little chlorine and water wash, maybe a PDR heater, possible circ. pump, you should be good to go. I would have paid that for a 2002.

Yes I got the tub for 1,000. The other 200 was for delivery, tip, and pizzas.  What is a PDR heater? Should I run the tub with fresh water and high chlor then dump and refill? How much does a disconnect with GFI's run?

jfish
what i did 2 bought 2 gallons of clorox dumped that in with the water and let it run for a few houers. After that i dumped and refilled with a lot of bromine startup. let it run again for a few houers. then i dumped again refilled.
I know that it is a lot of water but then you are good to go.
I was in the same position when i bought my tub. even if you have to by a replacement pump you are still in a good position money wise.
Gratulations

Happy tubbing.

Wow, that sounds like steal. Why did they sell it so cheap? Post some pictures when you have time.

I think I got a great deal. I should be able to have it running with a new cover for under 2500 total. The story was this. A couple buys a house and hires a carpenter to do a renovation. They pay him 800 to disconnect and move (from second floor deck) a sopposed working tub. He sets the tub in his yard blocked up and supported for about 3 months. This weekend he decided to sell it. It looks to be in great shape but I will know more when I fire it up next weekend. I have to put about 6 of the cedar look boards back on. I was able to stick my head under it since he had it about 10inches off the ground. When I saw it was a little less than half full with rain water(it was well supported). I did not see any signs of a leak. I'll take a pic or two soon.

Here is a link to some pics. I think I did it right.   http://picasaweb.google.com/jfish63/TubExport
I have to reinstall about 6 (I have them all)of the forever wood planks. Can I use silicon caulk or is there a preferred method.

Filled the tub yesterday. Super shocked to kill all the yuckies. I had to replace the heater. The local hot spring dealer had it in stock. It was much easier to change than the one in my old D1. It only took about 10 minutes and the tub was full. Drained it this morning gave it another good cleaning and it is filling now. I just don't know if my well can fill it quick enough for a soak tonight.

WOW! Great deal, by the sounds of it! For that price, I'd have bought two.... Anyhow, happy soaking, you're gonna love it!

Maybe a better question is where do you report Grandee abuse. Thats a huge investment to just let rot away.  I think I see a show in the making "East Texas hot tub cops"  coming in, rescuing the victim and filing abuse charges.

Nice tub and what a DEAL!!!
What's that feature strip made of?
I hope it's tile. ;)
As for  the planks, it depends on where their located and what kind of surface they attach too. If the backerboard is wood I'd use galvanized wood screws. If it's plastic I'd use some kind of adhesive specifically modified for plastic. Maybe even liquid nails.

You can silicone, liquid nails, two part epoxy, what ever will hold 'em. Predrill a couple holes at the bottom of the everwood and use a painted finish nail(at you local hardware store) to tack it into the base plywood at the top of the spa kickplate/ base. Wallah! Good Luck with it!
