We recently bought a Caldera Tahitian. We have too much foam when all the jets are on. Is there a simple fix for this or do we really need to rinse ourselves before we go in? I did try foam fighter, but it still comes back during our soak. Other than the foam, we are in spatopia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Are you sure it's foam (as in soap residue) or could it just be air bubbles? My tub gets patches of bubbles when the jets are really going but they disappear as soon as I turn the pumps off...
-
I had the same problem 5 weeks ago with my new tub. I didn't add any chemicals, just rinsed our bathing suits a few times in the washer machine with no soap. The foam cleared a few days later.

mcmishka,
Shock the poop out of it (MPS) it should take care of it in 24 hours, if not you could add a little ( 50 to 60 mls) of clarifier and let the jets run for 2 hours
Should work, good luck
-
Scoop out the foam with a pool skimmer as best you can and hit the tub with MPS. You will see the foam dissipate in 20 minutes. You will also get a gunky waterline from the foam.
Don't wash bathing suits! I have a bathing suit specifically for the tub and it doesn't get washed. I know some people say they rinse it but I don't bother with that either ... at times I soak in chlorine and in the summer it goes into the chlorinated pool so I feel it's clean. I only wear it for those activities, nothing else.
Clarifier, enzymes and filter cleaner can contribute to the foam too.

I agree with vinny
-
agreed, never wash you swim trunks. I dont know if you are tubbing with the wife, but my wife is notorious for cream rinse in her hair, body lotions etc. etc. So now she goes in at night before she lotions herself up. This has also helped us out.
-
Dont even wear bathing suits!
If the foam you're seeing is a fluffly, sudsy foam, its probably from the suits. I scoop and then hit it with a few spritzs of foam down.
If it's a more efervecent fizzy foam, it may be from the air injectors, and/or a sign that yout Total Disolved Solids (TDS) is getting high and you are due for a water change out.

Or that you're using Baqua Spa!

Try the Zorbo found at Spadepot.com: http://www.spadepot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MT1052
Works well for me.

have you had any luck yet with eliminating you foam issue?
-
Bosco,
I am the wife (your post stated something in regards to the wife having conditioner and lotion on). Just wanted to clear that up. I am guilty of lotion. We are going to rinse before using. Back to your question. We are still foaming and our water is cloudy. Almost yellow/kind of murky looking. Are water level was low, so water may not have been filtering well. Level is up. We were low on PH, added 4 oz. of PH increaser. We put in a tablespoon of Zip Clor (per dealer recommendation). Water looks better, but not clear yet. We still have foam, enough to skim out several times with a net and still more foam keeps coming. We have not been in since Sunday night. Miss it already:( Anyone have any suggustions???????????????????? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
well I would say to you that it is time for a drain and refill. I think your water chemistry has just gotten to far out of hand.
-
You really think I should drain it? I called the dealer yesterday and asked if I should drain and he said that I did not need to. He also did not give me a whole lot of ideas to try to fix the problem. The test strip shows all is well.
-
mcmishka,
I agree with bosco, time to drainand fill. Your TDS (total disolved solids) could be high and be the culprit behind your problems :(

If this is the first water since you purchased your tub, we tend to over chemical the water and ruin it. I believe this is Chas philosphy on new water drain and refill. From what I remember people suggest that you do you first water change early, because we 1. use to many chemicals and over sanitize, 2 our bodies are getting use to the tub. We tend to produce more oil in the beginning while our bodies are getting use to it so water dirties faster. 3. we tend to over use the tub in the beginning. Like all things, when we buy new, we use it like crazy. With a hot tub this load can dirty the water quicker as well.
I believe Chas suggested a water change after the first month. I could be wrong, but that is what I did.

Trixie had the same problem! Trixie wears so much french perfume, she smells like a French, uh....well, a French garden utencil!
Perfumes, deodorants, hair color, make up, lotions, bath oil residual, and all that stuff girls use cause bubbles and or sheen to the water.
First I agree with Vinny, Hot Tub Frank, and Drewstar for starters.
Here was my fix:
First of all...don't wear a swim suit. If you must, try this:
I wash spa swim suits and our special spa towels in the same load. I use All-Free or Cheer-Free laundry soap, and not much of that, ok?
Instead of fabric softener in the dispenser of the washer, I put 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to cut the soap in the rinse cycle. This works well.
Do not use any fabric softener or dryer sheets.
So, Vinny tells me to scoop out the soap suds by hand, so I do what Vinny says, after all he is Vinny, right? I turned on all the jets with air, made as much bubbles as I could before scooping. This is more effective than it sounds.
For what few bubbles were left, I sprayed anti-foam an un-bubbler on them.
NO MORE BUBBLES!!!!
-
How old is your water? I would also dump it out and start over. Water is very cheap in my area. I think it's less than $1 to fill my spa. I would rather re-fill than add more chemicals to the spa. :)

If you are having problem with bubbles that are from soap then whendoing laundry put the you use in the hot tub on a second rinse cycle and should help

I don't even wash my bathing suit. I don't see it necessary because a) I shower before entering spa b) there is plenty of sanitizer in the water and c) I don't want bubbles.

thanks everyone. We wear suits when the kids are up. Actually, that is pretty often. I am planning on double rinsing the suits and towels. I have an extra rinse cycle on my washer. I will also try the detergent suggestions. We did drain today and refill. Still waiting on a reply about Chemicals before we add anything. We don't want to mess the water up again.
-
I have a front loader washer, use the HE soap, double rinse all my clothes every time, and if we wear suits, I will still get foam from them doing this method. I try to remember to do a load with no soap occasionally with all the swimsuits, then I just hang them to dry after use for a couple weeks, eventually they end up on the ground, then the wash, then the rewash. This works for me to keep out the foam.

I live in a house with all women. They must have at least 99 bathing suits in the house. My rule is that they must use their hot tub suit to use the spa. Most of the time they grap the wrong suit and it looks like a bubble bath when they get out. When they use the rinsed suit there's no foam. I'm sure your problem is related to soapy suits. It doesn't take much.
