Title: Stinky smell on inner shell - Please Help!
Post by: cbee on November 09, 2006, 10:59:26 pm
Where my spa cover touches the ledges of the inner shell (filter cover, cup holder) it smells stinky.  Water is clear and has no bad smell.  All the levels are good.  It's like the plastic cover sweats inside and leaves the odor on the plastic shell that it touches.  Has anyone ever experienced this?  Is this some horrible bacteria???  How do I fix this????

I usually clean off the inside of my cover with super chlorinated spa water when I shock with dichlor--I believe hottubpoolboy turned me on to this method. You could use a soft bristle brush and scrub it down the next time you shock--assuming you use chlorine. The under side of my cover gets a stinky plastic smell to it also if I don't clean it.

I do what gomboman does as well.  water sits and gets smelly up there.  This is more prevalent in the warmer months for me.

I have the silver ion stick and have been using MPS.  So far I have only used chlorine for shocking once in 3 months.  Since I am the only user, the water has been staying fresh and clear.   Is there anything else I can use other than chlorine?

Thanks,

USE THE CHLORINE!!!, before you contract foliculitis on your under arms. Also on the underside of your cover. Gombo's right, it works, plain and simple.
