Chas, my thoughts are with you and your family. I hope you don't mind this post but I saw the link from another site. It makes our spa talk trivial. Your father is in a better place for sure.

Prayers are with you. It's very hard losing a parent, no matter how old we are or how old they are.
God Bless you all as you navigate through this difficult time.

Greetings and condolences Chas . . . I read the blog, and it was clear you're aware . . . Love lives on.
My Dad passed when I was 19, and I still feel him with me, still feel the love that he always showed me. He was joined by my Mom 7 years ago, she had a a brain tumor that left her unable to speak in the end - but as you seem to have experienced, words are not needed in the presence of such a mystery.
They both lived their lives teaching me and my brothers everything they could, and in the end, their last lesson was . . . how to leave this world with Grace. Sounds like you are similarly blessed.
Warmly,
Eve

Sorry to hear about your dad, Chas. How's you're mom doing?
When my step dad passed, my mom attended a grief group and she said that as much as she appreciated our support, it was the group that really helped her through it. They were all going through the loss of a spouse and they all knew what each other was going thru.
My condolences to you and your family.

I was walking down that road, to the place that was my home,
And the memories of a life go on forever,
Here's the village, here's the sea and here's the place where it began,
When I found myself in the arms of Lady Madonna,
And then I listen for those footsteps, coming down the hall,
A father to his young boy, who was hurting from a fall,
You must have heard me crying, you must have dried my tears,
But you know, I just can't remember, just can't remember,
The son and the father, the son and the father;
Now I'm walking with my boy through the place that is our home,
And the memories of his life are growing forever,
And I'm looking through his eyes at all the wonders of the world,
Then hand in hand we will make this journey together;
And we will talk of men and pirates, and heroes in the dark,
I will tell him of the hungers and the mysteries of the heart,
And I will always hear you crying, I will always dry your tears;
And I pray you'll always remember, always forever
The son and the father, the son and the father...

Chas,
May the most humorous memories of your dad help you smile through the tears.
Thinking of you and your family.....

I am surely sorry to hear of your family's loss. :'( I'm sure you've got a lifetime of good memories of your father. That's the best any son could hope for.

Thanks to one and all. And to those who have emailed, sent flowers and so forth. My niece came down from San Jose for a couple of days, and she is the only relative we have who actually leaves the house cleaner when she leaves than it was when she arrives. She was closer to my Dad than just about anyone - so her grief is very real - but she has been a great help as well. She went back to San Jose on Sunday, so the past few days have been extra sad - but life goes on.
My Mom is senile, so she doesn't really know where Dad is right now. She knows something has changed, and she acts sad from time to time, but overall she is doing well. For her sake we need to keep on a schedule and not change things in their part of the house - so I walk through my Dad's things every day as I get Mom up and see to her meals and such. I think that actually may be a help, in a way.
Anyway - to those who have expressed support, prayers and thoughts, thank-you.
I appreciate being part of a community here and on other boards as well.
Chas and Family.

Chas,
Just wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your father. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. Sounds like you were really close to him; never forget that; always remember those times together. It's been over 4 years since I've seen my dad; his loss.
