Title: Fresh fill--TA & Ph question
Post by: kervis on October 31, 2006, 08:13:33 am
I woke up this morning to a freshly filled HOT tub!   :)

The Metal Gon went in yesterday.  I think I am supposed to run the filters, then rinse them to remove the metals that they trapped?  Yes/no?

My TA is at 200 and the ph is 7.8.  I know I am on the high end.  My experience over the last 4 months has been that my ph dropped and dropped and it was all I could do to keep it above 7 for the last 2 months.

Here is what Doc's site says:  The acceptable range is 60-180 PPM. If below 60 PPM, add Spa Up until a reading of about 100-120 PPM is reached. If above 180, add Spa Down until a reading of about 120-140 PPM is attained.

I am so close to the top  of that acceptable range--both with the TA and ph.

My Calcium is about 180.

Can I just let it be and let the dichlor bring it down on it's own?  I am thinking that a couple weeks shouldn't hurt anything, but would like some guidance.  Thanks!  :)

Now, I just noticed that the numbers on my spa log book are different.

The acceptable range they have for TA is 80-120.   If I go by those numbers, then I am WAY high, but I still feel it will drop gradually on it's own with my dichlor use.

TA should be 80-120.  PH 7.2-7.8

kervis,
I wouldn't adjust TA or pH downward with the numbers you have....I would let dichlor slowly bring pH down as you suggested...and I wouldn't worry about your TA number.  Another real neat way to bring pH down would be to shock with unbuffered MPS which has a pH between 3-4...like the proverbial killing of 2 birds with one stone... 8-)

Thank you!  :)

I will go out now and add my dichlor--wahoo!

I am awaiting a delivery of the SeaKlear MPS and N2 cartridge.  I figured I'd try something new for this winter!

It will be neat to see what happens with my new routine.
