My wife offered to cover the store so I could have the day off.

My daughter took me out to lunch. (I don't eat much anymore.. Subway 5-gram sandwich and almost didn't finish it).

My son went to work - he's ill, but knew I would have to go on some service calls if he didn't.

My Dad bought me a boat! (20' Thunderbird - Early 80's, Ford V8, two axle trailer - waiting for a tune up and new starter before I pick it up later. It's in less than perfect shape, but should be a real speed-demon on the lake and hefty enough to go to the islands or up the coast).

Its my 50-50 day: I am 50 but I have now lost over 50 pounds.

And all of you have chimed in with birthday wishes.

I doesn't get much better than this.

I don't consider a person to be 'in their fifties' until they are at least 51. I'm just on the very last year of my fourties, and I may see if I can stretch that a bit..

Ooh - good idea. I like the math.

For years I have said, "my wife and I have been married for 52 years:

26 each."

So i'll have to practice up on the '12th aniversary of my 38th' bit.
