My hubby and I scheduled a wet test.
I called the morning of our appointment to discover our sales person couldn't be there.
Ok...can we come anyway?
A senior salesperson was handling the sales floor that day, I'll call him Ole Joe Smoe. Well, Old Joe Smoe was very surprised that we would want to get in the hot tub. Actually, he said he had never heard of a,
"wet test" nor had anyone ever been in their store to wet test, what a crazy notion!
Standing there with our beach towels in hand, we felt like idiots! But, then we quickly regained our dignity when we informed our uninformed senior salesperson that our friends at this website stood behind us and our wet test aspirations! We were armed with the confidence received from you guys here on this web site, therefore we pressed on and jumped in!
Thanks everyone, without you behind us, we may have been too intimidated/embarassed and nixed the wet test. Thanks to all of you for your help, it's greatly appreciated.
-
I bet Ole Joe Shmoe is on the internet right now trying to find this forum.... ;D
Good work!!!! ;)
-
I guess I missed a step. I thought you had already test soaked the Paradise and liked it. Which one are you referring to now?
-
So what did you test and what did you think?
-
re: "never heard of a wet test"
I would run away from this
dealer as fast as possible!

Yes, it was our experience wet testing the LA spa that I am referring to. We love the spa, however
I had not shared our experience with old Joe, who was NOT our salesperson. Our "regular" salesperson was not there at the time we went in (he's a really nice guy).
I don't know, but I have a feeling the old guy really didn't want to deal with us since we weren't his clients.
We are in the process of getting bids to build a new deck to accommodate a new spa, so.......
while we are pretty much set on the LA spa, we will probably wet test some other spas just for good measure, cause who knows we may change our minds before our deck is finished. Nothing is in stone yet.
In fact, yesterday my hubby said he may like the Sundance Maximus better. But, I don't know if it fits my therapy needs. There seems to be very few spas that fit my specific needs. We'll see, we still have time to shop.
Hopefully, we won't have the same experience.
........We didn't even know that wet testing was an option until we tuned into this website.
Thanks for your feedback.

Zep,
What to you have surrounding your spa? Rocks?
That looks cool. I like that a lot. Is that custom?
-
Ha Ha Ha.......yep, I bet Old Joe Smoe is setting the computer keyboard on fire searching for this site!
Thanks guys for feedback.
It was the salesperson for a LA Spa dealership I was referring to. I had not shared all the details of that experience until now. We love the spa! However, we are new to this. We've never owned a spa. It never occured to us until my doctor told me I need one.
-
re: "Zep, What to you have surrounding your spa? Rocks? That looks cool. I like that a lot. Is that custom?"
No Bee that is the new CalStone Cabinetry that CalSpas is now offering.
I am biased of course but I think it looks lots better than the old "traditional panel look" that spa cabinetry has always had. It comes in different colors and types of rock facade. I predict all spa makers will one day be offering it as an option. Personally I love the look.

Or just go back to the original salesman.

.
In fact, yesterday my hubby said he may like the Sundance Maximus better. But, I don't know if it fits my therapy needs.
What do you mean? What are you looking for in this regard? You mentioned a doctor recommended it, for what type of condition? I've never been in a Maxxus, but its big enough to have plenty of different types of seats.
-
Unforunately in the world of commission sales there are many that do not any value in helping someone else's customer. Find your original salesperson, wet test some others, and buy the one that best works for what you need it to do.
Good luck.
-
But, I don't know if it fits my therapy needs.
What do you mean? The Maxxus is huge and probably a wonderful tub. If you haven't looked at anything but the LA spas you might look at Marquis. Now I'm biased because I have an Epic and I think it has excellent therapy. Just a suggestion to look at others because you never know until you look at your options.
-
Artesian and Caldera also have very good therapy spas in multiple sizes and price points.

The Maxxus is very big but not near as big as the Paradise. If water exercise is what is needed, L.A. offers a resistance rowing option as well.
-
The Maxxus no longer offers that option.

Thanks for you feedback. Yes, we plan on dealing with our original salesperson. As a former Real Estate Broker/owner I understand commissioned sales.
Joe Smoe understood we were not his clients. I think that may have been part of the problem. He didn't like filling in. But it couldn't be helped in this case.
-
i really think that fake rock facade on that calspas is ugly.
-

Medically speaking my needs involve both low resistance physical therapy in a simple pool of water and hydro-therapy (jets).
Actually a swimming pool would be best for the low resistance physical therapy, but a pool and hot tub are out of the question! I can get by with a large tub that has enough room to allow me to lay across the top without hitting any seats while I, "alligator roll".
I need as much open space in the center of the tub to do excercises as I can get.
Also, I need a reclined seat, as I can't support myself for very long and need to lie down.
The attraction to the Paradise H-2 is the amount of open space in the center and overall surface area.
Anyway, I'm open to see other tubs that fit this catagory if you know of any. I just haven't found any.
Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it.
-
The Maxxus no longer offers that option.
Hmmm, resistance rowing? Yes, that may be a good thing. I need to ask the LA dealer about that and check it out.
Thanks much.

Really? It looks good in a photo, I've never actually seen it.

re: i really think that fake rock facade on that calspas is ugly.
Hey if everybody liked the exact same
thing we would live in a very boring world.
I personally love it and think it gives my
spa a very unique and special look.
I have got very positive unsolicited responses from
just about everyone that sees it for the first time.
Friends, neighbors and contractors are
like "wow.....that is an awesome looking
hot tub...where did you get that?".
Alot of new building designs here in Dallas
in housing and commercial structures are using the
exact same "stacked rock" look. It's a hot very
popular new "look" in architecture and building.
But of course....some prefer blondes, some prefer brunettes.

I think you either like it or you don't, not too much middle ground probably.
Me, I really like the look, its just what's located within those e four panels that I'm not too fond of. ;)

This is still a sign of a poor salesman, someday one of his customers is going to come in when your guy is there. That was one good thing about my dealer, was they cooperated with each other fully for the benefit of all.

Me Too...Thanks

Thus far I love mine and the
CalSpa Dealer has been wonderful.
And like I have said before you can
find "nightmare" stories on every
single brand of hot tub maker.

Certainly we all know that. I just think it wise to avoid the ones that tend to have 4x or 8x the # of "nightmare" stories (per spa sold of course). Having a reliable dealer is great so don't get me worng, I'm not saying you're headed for trouble.
Still love the look though in my house, my wife is the designer and decorator and I'm usually informed what actually looks good and what doesn't LOL.

re: Certainly we all know that. I just think it wise to avoid the ones that tend to have 4x or 8x the # of "nightmare" stories (per spa sold of course).
Oh I don't know.....I doubt that there is credible, unbiased, easily documented evidence to support your implication that CalSpas have 8 times the "nightmares" of the favorite brands of the dealers that mostly occupy this forum.
If a current Consumer Reports says CalSpa sucks well then I might listen, but from my experience (although it has been short) my CalSpa tub has been wonderful and the CalSpa dealer has been very attentive from day one.
Look I don't want to argue with you because you know tons more about spas than I do.... and I love this site.....but the only thing I dont like about it is what I view as the "everybody else sucks attitude" that is often between the lines.
It seems unless you are buying 1 of about 3 brands it is always between the lines "ewww beware" or "I'd be careful" or " they had problems" or "I think CalSpa Cal Stone is ugly"..."but my brand is perfect and so I dont ever mention or bring up a problem with the brand I sell"......many of the people that tend to do this are no doubt very knowledgeable about hot tubs but they are also biased....I realize it is human nature to be biased and I also realize I am not going to convince any "Big 3" proponents....so what the hell.....lol
When I first came on here I had several members PM me and say "hey dont listen to all that crap they are saying about CalSpa you are buying a nice tub".
So the advice is welcomed/accepted and often taken but it is also with the knowledge that a Ford engineer knows alot about cars but everything he says about Lexus may have a bias against Lexus.
re: Having a reliable dealer is great so don't get me worng, I'm not saying you're headed for trouble.
Ok thanks.....no hard feelings ever about "agreeing to disagree".

Your experience is an sample of 1 and let's hope it's a good 1.

I'll be working as a reserve deputy this evening at our county fair. IIRC, Calspa has a booth, and last year they had a model with that stone cabinet. I'll pay more attention this year if they're back again.
Zep I hope you stay around. Don't take the Cal Spa bashing too personally- it's good to have owners from as many brands as possible contribute here.
I may get toasted for saying this, but I'd even enjoy having a member here who owns a spa purchased from "He who is banned everywhere", assuming that person could play in the sandbox nice.
Some have tried and just don't seem to get along with actual people very well. Or maybe it was just the evil one himself, pretending to be one of his customers.

Brewski....I agree! ;)
Have No Fear....Zep Is Here To Stay!
LOL
Dont worry....i have thick skin...I have spent
years in political message board forums where
it can get extremely nasty....much worse than calling
my spa "ugly" thats for sure... :o
Seriously though I love this site and even-though
I may not agree with everything said or implied "between the lines"
this site is still extremely helpful/informative to spa owners like myself.
I would say I learn something new almost every
time I visit and everybody seems really nice and helpful.
Appreciate the thoughts.

Well I did my shift at our county fair last night, and Cal Spa did have their space. But no spas with the brick cabinetry. They had a dozen or so models out, one or two filled, but all the same redwood colored synthetic cabinet.
Interestingly enough, there was also a Sundance booth. I was particularly interested in this, since I own an Optima. I found out earlier that the dealer representing Sundance in my area is getting out of the spa business, and I was able to meet the owner of the new dealership- who already owns the Sundance territory in the southeast part of the state.
Since I was on patrol duty, I wasn't able to spend too much time talking with the rep at either booth, but I did manage to get the Sundance guys business card.
