I have had it with this pet food recall and have decided to cook my dog's food myself. I have a recipe from a Fox newscast, but it says to use a human adult vitamin-mineral tablet daily. Does that sound OK to you? Since the dog is the only family member that never complains about my cooking, I am fine with this ;D, I just want to be sure I am not creating any new problems for my beloved friend. :-/
I know this is not really hot tub related but I think from previous posts, we have established that in addition to our common enjoyment of hot tubs, most of us also have pets that we love! Hope that's OK
Thanks, Boni

Boni,
I use Hills Science Diet (SD) and they keep saying on their website that they don't have any food out there at this point with wheat gluten. The news keeps showing their packaging and I keep going to their website but so far everything I feed my dog has not been recalled.
I went to SD because my dog got collittis and the vet gave her the prescipition version of it. I figured it would be the closest to what the vet gave her.
I am so glad that I did switch though because some of the food I was feeding her was recalled.

Actually, Vinny, I also use Science Diet for my dog. I just got frustrated trying to keep up with the recalls. I threw out all the treats from the PETCO biscuit bar ..who knows who makes them. And I was afraid to keep using the Science Diet. I guess it was eye opening to find that most of the foods are made by the same manufacturer using the same ingredients..I guess just a different recipe. :-/
Thanks

Yeah, its funny to think the Eubakanuba is made in the same factory that makes Old Roy... I wonder how different their recipes really are!
I just bought some dog biscuits for my dog ... never entered my mind! :o I just assumed by now all affected brands were off the shelf.

Our Mutt is pissing my wife off. Where can I get some of that recalled stuff?
;D
PS - The dog IS pissing my wife off but this IS a joke folks...(just in case)

Ndabunka, I thought of you tonight in the tub (actually thanked you)....listening to the Celtic Woman CD that I bought on your recommendation! My husband even loves it and has to admit it is as nice as his Italian music! ;)

Boni- It is hard to make really properly balanced foods, which is why good quality commercial diets have their place in the industry. Dogs can be prone to GI upset, pancreatitis and diarrhea on "people food." Depends on the food and the dog! Dogs and cats also have different amino acid needs than we do, so in the long run, will have potential deficiencies...
I was a little peeved today to learn that Hills SD now has one DRY RX food recalled. It is specifically for diabetics: called "MD." ASIDE from this, ALL the dry foods are ok.... Until the next recall, I guess.
Vinny- is Eubakanuba like abracadabra? ::)
I am still feeding my beloved 13 year old lab Eukanuba Senior, and my little pissant mooch of a cat ( ;)) Hills light. Both are dry foods.
Heck- spinach and peanut butter have become contaminated with e. Coli..... what is to say that home cooking is really safe? :P

Thanks Anne and Vinny, I will go back to Science Diet (I use the blend for fatties/seniors). I hope this improves the quality control so that we don't have to go through this again. Maybe someone will launch a new brand that is made by the company...not contracted to a huge manufacturing facility. I know I would gladly pay more for ingredients from our country...instead of China!
Hey Vinny, you spelled the "E" dog food just like I pronounce it! ;D ;D
Wonder what that name means anyway? :-/

I spelled it the way I pronounce it!

you-can-oo-bah

I tend to call it icky bana...I think that is some sort of Japanese art. ;D ;D

Boni,
I buy my dog food at Petsmart and on their website they have all the food that they sell (sold) that was recalled.
Other than their cat food, Hills so far has been safe.

I just got a call from my neighbor telling me that her grandson's puppy (about 8 months old) just suddenly got sick and died. They couldn't afford to have testing done, so who knows...the puppy was just fine until it suddenly got sick and died within days! :(

Here's something from the Hills website dated today.
