We're scheduled to wet test an '06 Caldera C45 spa on Thursday. This model "number" does not seem to fall into their general model "names." Does anyone know anything about this model? Is it a promotional spa that will not be manufactured on a regular basis? If so, does this often present a problem with future service or are there quality issues? We've been told that the C45 is similar to the Geneva but with only 1 high efficiency pump. Would I be buying an inferior product if this was our favorite tub?
Thanks in advance for any information you can give me!

There is no Caldera C45. All Caldera models have names. What does the spa look like? What is the size?
Could this be a Cal Spa? Although, I don't know of any Cal Spa models by that number either.
Caldera is a great brand and very comfortable.
What city do you live in?

My receipt for a "hold" deposit definitely says "Caldera C45" It looks 99% like the Geneva (& that's what the salesperson compared it to) with wrist jets on the lounger.
I saw a post on another forum that there are rumors that a large retailer may have had a line "developed" for them that they are warrnetying themselves as opposed to the manufacturer. Any change that this may be the case?
I'm in OH.

Hi, I just bought a new Caldera Spa hot tub, and like the other person said no such things as numbers I think someone is pulling you leg.. The Caldera spas all have names and the newest model this year is the Moorea which I just bought three weeks ago.. We have looked at Caldera for three years before we bought and looked around and the company always had names only brand we came across what jucuzzi with numbers.. I sure hope you know what you are really buying... On spasearch. org. there is caldera dealers on that site as well so they could also tell you ...Does the spa still have the 10 years warrenty etc ???
-
Thanks for the heads up! - we were skeptical about it once we looked at the website which is why we posted this. this was my least favorite dealer - however, it's the only hot springs, caldera, & tiger river dealer in the area and I've read such good things about their spas in general. We're still going to wet test it & a HS tonight & put them on the spot about the "C45" model. It would make our decision much easier if we dislike the wet tests. I'll let you know what they say.

Rowan,
Is your dealer Watson's?

The paradise geneva mold with a stereo?! It's an Elation. Virtualy the same mold, virtualy the same seating, Virtualy the same spa! What are they going to do to address the price point, remove the integrated sub woofer? Give it only 2 speakers? Is it going to have 2 jet pumps and a circ pump, no blower? Are they leaving the blower in?

Is it possible it's going to be slated for BJ's wholesale club .. to compete with it's arch rival Costco ... HMMM! ;) ;D
Just Kidding ... hopefully it has all you want!
Good luck with it!!!!!

So they're selling tents now? Guess they're competing with Coleman there too.

All Caldera needs now is a line of sleeping bags, ice coolers, weenie roasters, and snake bite kits and they can go head to head!

I almost chocked on my fucking piece of celery! HA, hahahahah! Look, we're dancin' in the hot tub.
<-----Guess I need to change that to YEEEE OUCH!

I thought Caldera and Hot Springs were manufactered by the same company. Is this not true? I am also looking at the C45S, would love to hear feedback on this tub.

Turns out that this IS a promotional line manufactured by Caldera for a specific buying group (verified by the manufacturer). You give up a couple of features from the Geneva - no circ pump, 1 less jet (like the foot jet on the Geneva), you just get a single inside light, but you save some $$. We actually like the feel of it better than the Geneva when we wet tested them both. We're leaning towards a Sundance that we tested since one of us tended to float in several of the C45 seats and it really is pushing the limit space-wise for us.
The store that is carrying the promotional line does not seem to be really advertising it as a promotional line - but when asked specifically why we could not find any information on it (after calling Caldera), they did say that it was made specifically for their buying group. Satisfactory answer for us if the Sundance falls through for any reason.
Would still like any thoughts on other issues we may want to consider on a promotional line.
BTW-The salesperson said that the warranty was through Caldera (same coverage as the regular line).
-
I don't think you need to worry about it being a promotional line. I think that is just semantics. The spa is still a Caldera and from what you said, it still carries a warranty by Caldera. In that regard, you will be as happy with that spa as you would be with a "regular" Caldera. BTW, what was the warranty on that spa?

I'd agree as long as it uses equipment seen on their other spas I wouldn't give it another thought.

Well - we ended up going with an '05 Sundance Altamar (loved the spa & loved the dealer), but the C45 was a close runner up. I floated a bit more than in the Sundance, and there were a couple of small things that worried us a bit about the C45, but would not have stopped us from buying it.
For those who may be considering this line:
1) I'm not sure that the pumps that are on the C45 are the standard ones used on the other Caldera models - make sure you verify that they are before you buy if that's important to you. (& there is no circ pump.)
2) When we wet tested the first night, the display said 102 and did not feel all that warm. When we tested a second day, the temp was set at 102, the display said 105 when we got in, and it subsequently went up to 106. May have been a fluke but you never know.
Warranty was 5 yrs parts & labor on all mechanics, plumbing, etc. 7 or 10 on the shell (I forget which). They said it was the standard Caldera warranty, but did not go into great detail.

Congradulations on your new tub... I am glad you found one that you liked... I would not recommend going with the other Caldera since what you said about it.. Most Caldera spas have two motor etc. as you can see on there web site.. That is one way to really check out the tubs that you are buying by looking in person wet test and then really check warrenty and specs with the web sites for that manuf. I am really happy for you happy tubbing.... ;D
-
Neither would I ;)
I wouldn't give it another thought.

"Special Order" spas have been around as long as I have been offering Watkins products. You simply have to place a large enough order and they will accomodate you. However, the special order items I have seen are such things as custom tile - back when all the tubs had tile, special siding, special stain colors on the wood siding, special colors on the covers, and so forth. This is the first time I have heard of a spa being offered without the circ pump. Caldera does make the Highland series tub without a circ pump, so one would imagine that they put the system from those spas into the C45.
Don't know about how well that would work.
