I haven't paid much attention to Spa vac threads as I've never really needed them before. Our spa is 3 feet from the back door, I put down outdoor carpet and we wear sandals from the house to the tub.
This year, my neighbors Silver Maple is growing over the fence and hanging over our tub. I've never really noticed before, but this year, it seems to be shedding its buds and they seem to gravitate directly into the tub. They almost look like dead lady bugs floating.
Well eventually they sink and head for the low spots. I was envisioning a small hand held device that might look something like a scoop for cleaning out a litter box attached to a small porous bag that lets you skim across the bottom and it would pick up big pieces of this debris and they would get trapped in the bag. Does such a thing exist?

Something like a mini leaf rake for a pool? (a netted bag skimmer attatched to a pole?)

Or this, a "mini vac" but this seems like overkill

A spa wand wouldn't get the buds out? I think it would.
If you can tell me how big the buds are (compared to something) I'll take a look at my spa wand tonight and see if the nozzle is the right size.

I used a pool skimmer most of last yea until I bought a spa vac from Doc. It works well especially when things dive to the bottom of the tub.
The skimmer worked OK, but it was a pain to get down into the tub. I didn't use my pool's metal pole, just the head. I think Kmart or Walmart sells a skimmer attached to a little wooden stick. The skimmer doesn't get the fine things though.

WalMart - or other - pet department, large fish scoop. Only lasts about one year, but they are very cheap.
-
did a google search, found these which look pretty heavy-duty compared to the ones I use. Little more money too, but might work better, perhaps even last longer.

A Grit Gitter will probly work well its good for getting sand and small rocks

I have sold three grit gitters in 20 years. All three customers were very pleased with their purchases. I think the price tag puts a lot of folks off - but they make the things to last and they DO work.

Duh, I have a 30 gallon aquarium and I didn't even think of that.

I bought a Grit Gitter a couple of years ago and it works great. I also keep a small kitchen strainer hanging by the tub . I have a problem with three short needle pine trees and these two items work great to keep my tub clean.

I like the fish net idea.....screening's small enough to get most anything out of the tub, and they make them round or square....and they're CHEAP!!!! ;D
-
wmccall, I have an elm tree thats pooping in my tub. I tried the net but lost more than I could scoop up. Bought the spa vac and get everything. a little pricey for what it is but works well.

No Prob Zep....let us know how it works....it looks like it has to connect to a garden hose?

Yep drewstar......I rented a home awhile back that had an old hot tub i rarely used.....one time a repair man was there to work on the tub and said he had invented a gadget mini-vac to clean the tub that worked off a garden hose....so i bought one from him but he charged a bit more...this looks like about the same thing......i used it once or twice and it worked pretty good.....but i soon moved so had very little experience with it........i bet this is basically the same thing.....I'll let ya know

I've owned one like this and it was a pain. In cold weather climates, who wants to be dragging out a garden hose?
Like I said, the pump action one I mentioned in the post above works great!
-
in cold weather it might be a pain.....but we're heading into the warm season now, so maybe Zep'll get a chance to try it out for awhile. :)

My sister lives in Saskatoon, Canada and she said warm weather is only about 3 months away :)
