My wife and I are about to make the final decision on a spa. She wants one with a lounge seat, and I am really on the fence. I've heard some really like it and some really don't.
Anyone care to share their opinion?

I am also new as I celebrate my 2 week "anniversary" in hot water tonight. Struggled with this question for awhile and ended up getting a spa without a lounger. Much better if you have another couple sharing the spa with a nice corner seat for each person. Also I find I move around a good bit when there is just the two of us or by myself and like the open configuration.
So far I haven't missed the lounge.
-
I tend to agree with Tan. I have a lounger and they are nice. But if you have a small tub then I would not get it. I have a large tub and still have room for everyone. So it has no bad effect on the people in the tub.
-
I am in the third week of having my spa, my spa is 7 feet by 7 feet and seats 6 people with the lounger, and I find the lounger to be my favorite seat as I really like being able to lie down instead of sitting down.
But from the things I have read on this forum it really is a personal decision. If you can wet test the tub with the lounger and see if you like it.
Hope this helps

We have a lounger in ours, and we love it! At first the hubby did not want one, but I find he is in it as often as I am. We also, have a large tub, so there is still room for another couple without feeling crowded. Go with what is best for you.
-
From the posts I've read, it seems that all loungers are not created equal....some complaints of "floating out" of the lounger are around here somewhere....and I think it's gotta "fit" you anyhow...if it's made for someone taller/shorter than you, and you don't use it...it doesn't do any good to have that seat in the tub.
Best of luck on whatever you choose!

We are planning to wet test them tomorrow. I spoke to the dealers wife and she said that she is 5'6" and her head won't reach the pillow in the Sundance Cameo. She told me that she needed a booster seat in order to sit comfortably in the lounge. I never heard of a booster seat for a spa. My wife is 5'-4" and I know she'll be under water...

The lounger is much more comfortable than the fence! For us, we are a family of 3 with a 6 person tub. The lounge is the least used seat, but I'm glad its there. I use in early morning alone soaks, or at night with clear skies. Kids like sitting in the lounger sideways as that is usually the shallowest seat.
-
You bring up a good point about the kids and shallowest seat. I have three kids that range in age from 7 to 2. I know the majority of the tub will be too deep for them.
-
I originally thought I wanted one. We wet tested the lounger and decided against it. The wife kept floating out of the lounger and I felt just a bit cramped (i'm a tall fellow).
I found that I could "lounge" in the corner deep hot seat.

My kids were 7, 6, 4 when we got our first spa (38" deep) and they never sat still in it anyway. They used it more like a pool.

We have a Maxxus, the largest Sundance makes. My wife sits in the lounger a lot and she is only 5'3". She has no problem floating out of the seat. She simply ajusts the diverter knob to whatever pressure she wants. Thats what there for. My tub is deep, and she has never said anything about not feeling good in a seat or lounger

My fiance and I settled that by getting a tub with two loungers. One is designed for a taller / larger person which is good for soaking (which she enjoys) while I prefer the smaller person / child lounger because it's very shallow, and good for cooling off after soaking in the deeper waters of the tub.

That is a MIGHTY deep spa!!! :o ;)

I do not like loungers. I find the fatter the person, no need for lounger, you will never stay in it. Loungers take away seats for friends and it is not a functional seat. once you get in the tub, you can lay where ever you want
-
I have a Hydropool 638 that has a lounge and I quite like it. I find that it floats me and I just sit there suspened in "midwater." There is a jet on the left side that, if open, pushes me out of position. For the life of me, I don't understand why it's there. So the fix is to close that jet. So I vote for it. But the ultimate test is to wet-test the tubs you're interested in and see what you think.
-
I opted for no lounger and I've not regretted it ever. Of course when I was looking, one of my criteria was no lounge.
That being said, it is all personal preference. As you see, some love the lounge and others do not.
-
I started out looking at non-lounger spas only. I ended up getting a HS Envoy--long story. The lounger fits me like a glove and it's my favorite seat in the house--by far. I spend 90% of the time in the lounger. I would NEVER buy another tub without a lounger.
-
I wish now for the one at our home we didn't have the lounger. Both my wife and I "float", so the lounger is useless.

If you get a weighted spa belt or improvise with some other weight you should be able to enjoy it. Maybe if you both ...

Maybe if you both ...
Yeah, that does work ;D

If you appreciate star gazing/meteor showers, then there's not a better seat in the tub than the lounge.... :) Meteor showers that occur during colder months with crisp, clear skies are a favorite....a treasure.
-
I hope we have cleared up any confussion for you. Your delima to buy a spa with a lounger or not should be an easy one now. :D
The clear answer is to not get the lounger unless you prefer them. ;D
-
or.....don't get a lounger unless the one in the tub you want is comfortable to YOU (or SWMBO) ;D
-
Our Optima has extended head rests, they go around the corner on two corners, which makes it easy kick your legs up and lounge by design. The foot dome works nice as an ottoman. (sp)
-
turns out that the Grandee (also lounger-less) can be used like it's got a lounger....the seat just to the right of the steps inside (when facing the tub) when sat in "just so" with jets OFF is in the right place to put your feet up on the entry steps....this felt pretty good to me.....if I got overly warm, I crossed my legs to raise one a little out of the water, crossed my arms over my head and kicked back....sounds goofy, but in a tub with no lounger....this is pretty nice.
If I were really skinny and tall, I could probably accomplish this with a pump on, but I'm pretty bouyant....
-
Wet test. No float, get lounge. Float, no lounge.

Agree. Its amazing how many Optima owners don't know about the "pivot seats."
-
We have the optima too with the pivot seats. There is no need for a lounger....any seat can be a lounger. Especially if you lay with your feet over the dome and let that middle jet hold your feet up. We have 5 children who all can find a seat that fits them well. The Optima has 4 different depth seats and 2 shallower, cool down seats.
-
Yes, the Optima is a great spa. It was on the top of my list before I bought a HS Envoy. I sure like the lounger on the Envoy with the DX Moto......

I'm just under 5'4" and small framed. I initially planned on a tub with a lounger, but ended up with an arctic that has 3 captains chairs, some of which allow you to recline a little anyway. I tried HS, Tiget River, D1, Caldera, Marqui Everyday, Artesian, Coleman and LA spas. Of these, for me, the only lounger that fit me well was the HS (Envoy). The D1 and Coleman were ok, too, but the jets hit me in the wrong places in the loungers. That may help your wife. Our problem was that most loungers that fit me did not fit the significant other, and vice versa.
-
wow!!! I sure didn't expect so many responses.
We wet tested the Optima this past Saturday. My wife
went in convinced she wanted a lounge, now she's just confused. I'm glad I was able to get her to test it first. We are looking at the Majesta which is basically a scaled down version of the Optima.
I think she is still a little curious about the lounge so we are probably going back for a second wet test with a spa that has one. The dealer didn't have one on the floor with water in it, but said they would be getting one in a couple of days.
Thanks, to all of you for your advice. This forum has been a source of great information that has truly simplified our spa buying experience.

Salty,
The Altamar is the exact same dimensions, pumps, etc. as the Majesta. It has a lounge. Call your dealer and tell them you want to test one. That would be the closest to "apples to apples" you could get.
Good Luck
