Electrician came out today, worked for a couple hours bending conduit, drilling a hole thru our basement wall, running wire, etc...did a very nice job, from what I can see. He made sure the GFCI box will be the mandatory 5' from the tub (it is), and left the "easy part" for whoever comes out next round....
the panel is just over the left side of the deck chair.

I also wanted to post this.....I've decided to recycle a couple green enamel coated baskets that the previous owners of the house had attached to another side of the deck, that were originally used for plants. After some cleaning, they're rehung and ready to hold rolled up towels for guests, our flip flops, whatever...(they're attached to the right and left side of the railing facing the tub deck). Also, I wanted to be able to hang wet towels, suits, etc. within reach of tub users..and I had a couple extra powder coated coat racks, soooo....I screwed that onto the tub-side of the gate. This way, everything tub related stays where it's of use....now to get the green thumb going....

I also plan to get a bunch more of the lava rock, some more bricks..and fill in the exposed edge of the deck area a bit higher.

Looks good.
My electrician is coming Friday. I'm still thinking about where to put the box.
-
if your guy is like the one that did our work...he may just pick a location for you. This worked for me, though...it was pretty much where I thought I wanted it, just lower than I thought it'd be.

What's the consensus on amps? Â My Sundance Bahia won't run both pumps and the heater on 50 so we went with a 60 amp GFI service. Â Is that the case with most everyone out there?
ps...TL...looooooks super! Love your pup!
-
If you want all systems to run, go with 60 amp.
As far as, "is that the case with most folks," most tubs do not need more than 50 to run all systems.

Looks like the little ankle-biter is wearing a sweater! Is that style or weather driven? ;D

looks good so far, but what about the rodent problem. It looks like the rats where you are from are wearing clothes. That is some high end rodent ;D

Folks getting electrical put in, I'd strongly recomoned asking your electrician to throw in a 120 outdoor socket while they are doing the work. They are great.
-
what do you find yourself using your 120 for?
-
first off, that's our resident "rat on stilts", he's wearing his t-shirt that says "WOOF" on the back...it's because he was cold when I took the pic ('only' about 52 out)he's awesome!
I'm still going to get an outdoor outlet put in, however...to keep the cost down at the moment, it's on hold til I have the same company come back to run the upgraded service (yep, I'm still planning to run 200 amp service) out here...and when they do that, I'll ask them to install one. It SHOULD be around $60, from what I was told....
Next......TUB'S HERE, IT'S UP, AND IT IS RUNNING!!!!!!!
Got the call early this afternoon saying it was in, when did I want it delivered.....I'm proud of myself, I didn't say "ask me another stupid question"..so it got here, was set up by about 3, electrician finished work around 6:30 tonight....
I learned one lesson, though.. (more than that really, but this one's really basic) Be sure to run water through the hose for a little bit BEFORE sticking it in the tub.....I've used the hose on the BACK of the house a lot lately, but haven't used the one on the SIDE of the house since last fall.....and that's the one that's NOT run through the water softener.....sooo...it kinda looks like someone really had to pee in the tub.....or poured shiner bock......hmmm...
Anyhow, for the Grandee, the 8x9 deck is GREAT.....nice, snug fit, I'm going to work on the walk around area next, now that the major carnage is over. Pictures to follow later or tomorrow........WOO-HOO!
-
Congrats, just don't let the rat in the spa.
-
the rat hates baths....however, with a WARM bath like this, he might be more interested.....but no water wings, no tubbin.
-
Did I mention I was Psychic? ::)
-
Nope, Boni.....I believe you said "PshCHO..." not "PsyCHIC". ;) Either way......Whoopee!!!
Here's my happy dance......

Congrats! My you be in HOT water tomorrow morning...... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
thanks, anne! Water came out at 46 degrees around 6pm...last check was 10pm, 64 degrees......still a BIT on the chilly side....all that's in the water right now is Min Quest and a couple Tablespoons of dichlor (NOT added at the same time)....dealer said to get readings from water and call him in the morning.....they don't open til 9 or 10, so I figure I'll test, soak, test, and call him with the info when they open.

what do you find yourself using your 120 for?
I use mine for my towel warmer and my boom box. I've used it for my big screen TV when I wanted to watch Nascar and drink beer from the tub. I use it for my pump when I drain.
-
I'm thinking a little boom box would be nice for now...someday when I have $20 I'll go to the store and get a little bookshelf stereo, but for now.....the radio that's older than my son...lol

Drewstar: great minds think alike....the romex is already in!

My electrical inspector FINALLY showed up this week...good thing eveything passed since we have been using the tub for 4 months now. After he checked out the electric to the spa, he said we needed an exterior plug on a GFI..so many feet from the tub. I didn't know it was a requirment but he said it was so the homeowner would have a safe GFI circuit available to plug things like radios in. It still seemed a little silly to me to be required until he asked me to figure out how I would add a radio if I didn't have that circuit...He said people just run extention cords from an interior Non-GFI and it is an electrocution risk. He also reiterated what our electrician told us...You need to check the GFI trip to the spa periodically to be sure it still works. I guess you would ususally do that when you change out your water. ::)
-

Radio, lights, hedge trimmers, edgers, blowers, bug zappers, blenders, pumps, grill rotisaries, power tools, and if ever buy one; a Mesquito Magent.
Out door outltes have a million and one uses. You may not need it specifcally for the hot tub, but over all in the yard they are indespensable. Since your have the electircan there, for a few bucks more ($50), they can put one in for minimal cost.

Drew, your yard looks similar to mine and I have 4 additional outlets out in the yard. We got tired of gas chainsaws and blowers and such and decided to just WIRE the whole place. It is especailly helpful at Halloween when we do the haunted trail in our woods!

Geeze Bonnie, I too have an all out Halloween bash (80 adults in a drunken pumpkin carving bash) outdoor outlets are a must have!
Electric chainsaw? ELECTRIC? No! That's a girls tool. :)
You know what I have? Of course you do...It's a 24" Crastsman GAS chainsaw. ;D
-
Bummer....at Halloween we don't have woods to have drunken chainsaw totin' pumpkins in. :'( we just have my hubby and the roomie that I kicked out wear dresses and get drunk. ;D
-
OK Drew you started it. My Craftsman (only about 2 years old) is trash..and yes I have a girl's electric chainsaw..and one that goes on a pole trimmer, my favorite because it can do a lot of damage from the ground. I also have several other working (non-craftsman) gas chainsaws and a Craftsman weedwacker and a Craftsman tractor. ...and a Craftsman handmower OK..most of my stuff is also Craftsman and I may actually have to eat my words and buy a new Craftsman tractor.
We prefet to terrorize the kids at Halloween..we will have to swap stories some other time ;)

24 inch what are you cutting down?
-
my hubby wants a chainsaw.....I want my hubby to keep all his fingers and toes. I win.

24 inch what are you cutting down?
I've got fiar size wooded lot.(or it used to be, before I got my saw) I cut down trees to clear the lot (big hardwoods, over 100' tall and 2' dia. ) My driveway is several hundred feet long and lined with trees. In the winter It is not uncommon to have a branch come down and block me in. A large bar makes the bigger jobs go faster.
-
Woooo, I won't let my husband have anything larger than a 16, he is dangerous!

I hope you are doing business with a sawmill when you cut those beauties down. What kind of hardwoods? Maple? Oak? Walnut?

Mostly I had white oaks and some maples that were negleted, and a few were completey dead, and were a risk to the property. At the time I had a wood stove and heated my house.
I took some forestry courses in school and did learn about selective cutting, pruning, and how to operate a chain saw. A chain saw demands concentration and respect. It' is one the most deadly tools to use.
-
100' high
2' diameter
You're sending thousands up your chimney.
Some sawmills will even come out and cut them for you, but you will receive less money if they do.
I've got an air drying rack in my basement woodshop. Â Hickory, Ash, Walnut, Red Oak, Elm, Cherry have been drying there for about 2 years. Â Hummidifers set to 50% so wood is maybe 12-16% moisture. Â Maybe 1500-2000 board feet. Â Okay as is for small projects but when it comes time to make a top notch piece of furniture I take it to a local farmer and fellow woodworker who has a home built kiln. He will take it to 6-8%.
The Ash, Poplar, Cherry and Hickory came from a friend who has a farm in Eastern Ohio (near East Palestine). Â When he is ready to prune out his property he asks me if I am interested in what he intends to cut. Â He will then cut it down, take to a local band saw mill and have it cut to my specifications. Â I go out and pick it up and pay him $1.50 board foot regardless of species. Â It's great to have good friends. Â If I don't want it, someone else will. Â He has about 10 times the wood I have in his barn loft.
Anyway, you should see what the locals will pay you for a little work on your part. Â You might be surprised. Â

Maybe. But I doubt it. Most of the stuff was junk. The bigger ones that were 2ft in dia were rotted at the trunk and had to come down asap. My uncle was a VP at a N.E lumber company and now is a forestry consultant, and he advised me to burn it.
