I've had my spa for 4 months and have not treated the head rests. They are starting to discolor. I live in Michigan and want to treat them before the snow flys. These are removable and black high density foam, I think. I use 303 on the cover and love it but don't know if it would be OK to use. What would be best?

I use 303 on my headrests. It works just fine. Once per year I do a thorough scrubbing to clean off any oxidation and give a liberal dose of protectant.

I don't, I have a Marquis.......

I don't, I have a Beachcomber
-
So you guys that don't... is it because you don't see any oxidation, you're worried about residue, or what?

Marquis and Beachcomber have molded headrests that are part of the shell....

Ah... thanks for enlightening us non-beachcomer & non-marquis owners.

The pillows on my Dynasty look just like they did when I bought the tub.

For what it's worth, we've occasionally seen pillow discoloration due to contact with hair color, etc. There are some nasty chemicals in personal care products that seem to react badly when combined with chlorine/bromine. We were able to isolate the cause when we found that it was typically the pillows in the seats used by females (with colored hair, etc.) that discolored.
Disclaimer: I am not a male chauvinist... just making an observation based on our experience in the store. :)

Yeah, and just imagine what the hair dye is doing to the scalp of the user....

after 5 years of use in my colman all the head rests were discolored. the lower part that was in water was a little lighter then the upper part. if there is some treatment to prevent this in my up coming spa purchase i would love the advice.
thanks

I let them be for a couple reasons. The old style pillows in the industry often fell apart before they would even have time to discolor and I hated pillows for that reason as they end up getting waterlogged. The newer style pillows hold up very well structurally but they will discolor over time, especially if you have ozone but the reason they disclor is the sanitizer and ozone but since I know what those do for me I just accept the disoloration and am happy the pillows don't fall apart like the old ones used to.

tony hit the nail on the head. 303 is the way to go. I use it on the pillows when I do my cover--normally bimonthly. It also works great on the control pads and filter compartment cover as well. Great stuff.

Wow......what a memory! Now, do you know where you left your keys? ;)

Another trick is to not to have the pillows submerged in the water.
Fill your tub up to just under the bottom of the pillow. This way they wont be soaking in the water 24 x 7 and can increase the life of the foam.

Is it worthwhile to use 303 on the plastic "psuedowood" panels that make up the sides of the spa as well?

Use 303 on any plastic or rubber. Check out their website here for more info:

Just on the off chance there is one since I am considering placing an order for a number of items...
Is there really a "forum" discount? ;D

Yes but you have to buy from one of the dealers on this site who has at least 500 posts and the discount is a free bottle of bromine and a shirt that says "I spend my free time spa chatting on line and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
In other words, he was pulling your leg so you may be walking funny the next few days.

Ah! Well that seemed to be the "tone" of the original post but never hurts to ask I suppose. Thanks!

funny....as a 'perk' on another forum I used to frequent, members that mentioned they were part of a particular forum DID get a bit of a break on pricing from dealers that were also forum members.....Here I thought the "whatsthebest-hottub hookup" mighta been real.
"the party of the first part being related to the party of the second part......"
