Title: Pump problem??
Post by: cappykat on March 01, 2006, 01:23:44 pm
I guess today is my day to post.  The #2 pump on my Epic will only operate on high.  I've tested several times and it will only come on when I press the button twice.  Any ideas?

I guess that could be, but wouldn't the entire pump not work?  I'll have husband check it out tonight.  I've called my dealer, a tech is suppose to call within 48 hours.

Could be the board.

Sounds like you may have lost the low speed, I would suggest having your tech bring a pump with him and if thats the problem it will be a quick fix.

Mendo, Just wondering, if she does need a new pump, will she need to drain the tub?  :-/

This doesn't make me feel real comfortable with a spa that I've only had since 9/28/05.

Mendo...either I read it here or somewhere else but that you can tell from the ID# when the tub was actually built.  Do you know anything about this?

Cappy, my tub has an inspection date on the top of the control panel, don't know if that will help you at all. I wouldn't panic yet, maybe it is just a loose wire like T-Lady said... I know they can switch one of the pumps out without any problems because there is is shutoff valve. Good luck and keep us posted

it could be a fluke...possibly the ONLY thing wrong with your tub.....don't panic just because you've only had it for 6 months, let the dealer back the warranty, and enjoy!

Anything mechanical can fail, there is not a motor anywhere of any type that is 100% fail proof....look at Nascar and the millions of $'s spent and a simple line can brake and bang there out of the race....It happens what does matter is that your motor is guaranteed for a full 5 years regardless of the tub is in your yard or someone else's should you move it or sell it no excuses no exclusions you will be taken care of.....

Why speculate?  Your warranty will cover the fix, I'm sure.
Let the pro diagnose and fix the problem.  Shouldn't cost you anything.  Be happy you have warranty support availble.
And like Mendo said, any spa can have issues, mine went three years before needing service, but others have issues sooner, some later, some never.

Relax, your baby just had a hiccup, with a little pat on the back she will be fine.

Just take a big ol' hammer out there and whack it a couple of times.  You'll feel better and it might solve the problem.  That's what I'd do, but I'm not a tech.

Good luck and good whackin'!

Huh...I better not go there.  The temptation is great but I'll refrain.

I've found that it's not necessary to have a LOT of hammers. Just two. One "regular" hammer for everyday stuff, and one "BFH" (BIG FREAKIN HAMMER) for all the stuff that really ticks ya off...
I keep my BFH in my dump truck.....it's not legal to carry a firearm in Wisconsin yet. *sigh*

My guess is the low speed output on the board or a loose connector.  Let us know.

Geez...my husband came home, I told him I couldn't get the low speed on pump 2.  He picks up the remote and voila...it works! That kind of stuff just makes me crazy!  It would not work for me.  Now I was using the display not the remote but that worked for him too. Go figure...

Cappy, Yesterday I went out to take a picture of the tub with the waterfall on and my beautiful new Walmart
spa fine stemware on the tray over the waterfall. I wanted to email it to my hubby to tease him at work. I turned on pump1 to get the waterfall going and it cut off, tried it again and it cut off again.  Oh no..I'm in a panic..something is wrong. I tried it again and again it cut off.  I got myself so upset that I didn't think rationally and called my dealer.  The very simple fix for my bad pump was to increase my water level. :-[
With no one in the tub, the water level was too low and the pump just didn't have enough water through the filters...Well Duh.... :-/ Live and learn

Good grief, Boni...we are too much alike!!  I didn't panic but I swear I did the same thing I always do when I turn the pumps on.  I could not get the low speed on that pump!!  I mean c'mon...it's pushing a button!!

Oh well...just glad that it's working.

If you're sure it would not work but somehow is working now then sit back and relax but if it happened once it'll happen again.

So spatech...I called my dealer yesterday but I haven't called them back to tell them it's working.  Should I go ahead and have a tech come out and check it?

At least let them know it restarted so they don't come out to see it working and think you're clueless and that it was working all along. They may want you to monitor it and my response would be "That's fine but when it happens again can you prioritize me as a repeat caller. ".

Now this brings up an interesting point in that you may get hit with a trip charge at some point....We would not do that here as most of our customers our local enough where we are happy to go and walk them though any areas of concern they may have but it is not completely unreasonable to charge for something if there is in fact nothing wrong......What I mean is the service tech has to be paid and if it is the factory who pays him than no repair needed he gets paid zero.....just something to think about.... :)
