Can hardly wait. The tub is a maxxus. And has the finer filter. I was told by the dealer that it alone will filter out a lot of the nastys and won't have to use much chemical. I'm new to this so I don't know which chemicals to start with. I would like to put as little in the tub as possible. It has a CD ozonator. I need advice from some of you old heads on what to do. Thanks! Great site.
-
Did your dealer sell you or provide you with any startup chemicals? If so, I'd go with their recommendation, at least for a while.
If not, dichlor and bromine are the two most popular systems. Either work with ozone.
I'd not put too much stock in the claim that Sundance's new filter reduces the need for sanitizer chemicals of some sort.
It has been claimed that ozone can reduce the need for sanitizers, though. Perhaps your dealer meant that.
-
You know, that could be Brewman. I know zero about chemical systems.

galen, welcome to spatopia (I'm awaiting my official 'baptism' yet)! for starters, if you don't mind reading thru lots of info, try:
http://www.rhtubs.com/info.htm
As far as chemicals, I don't want to have a LOT of them, either....I plan to start on chlorine, ozone and nature2, as it'll keep the amount of chlorine I need to use low, and is a well liked program, from all I've read...others use bromine instead of chlorine, with the ozone and some of those use a bromine-friendly mineral stick (nature2 isn't)....but that's up to personal preference....
Chlorine/bromine is the sanitizer, ozone is the oxidizer, and nature2 is a mineral stick that helps keep the water clean and clear.....there's LOTS of info on this site regarding what to use for chemicals, even in the last week, so PLEASE feel free to browse the posts....I've learned LOTS simply by doing that.

Tub arrived at 1:30 and by 3:30 they were gone. The temp. is at 59 degrees and rising. Started at 44. I decided to go with Sodium dichlor. With the cd, it shouldn't be to hard to take care of it. Man, I wanted to jump in but damn that waters cold! Started friday with grass in the backyard and now a tub is sitting on the slab with water in it. Had an eletrican come by to check on my wiring because I don't trust my work. He said it all look fine and wanted to know if i needed a job. No thanks. I was a little confusing, This sundance is a three wire hookup but I guess a lot are four wire. I'll take some pictures tomorrow if anyone wants to see it.
-
Galen...of course we want to see it. We're all about pictures!!
-
yep, post the pics, but no 90 year old guys in speedos please...... :o
Congratulations on getting this far, it's all cruisin' from here on out for you!

How big is your tub?
-
:o :o
-
While many men may grit their teeth and wince at that photo there are plenty out there thinking "now THAT is my kind of woman".
BTW, I'll bet the girl in pink never looked so slim.
-
they sure seem to have tiny feet
-
Drewstar, you just screwed up my day! I can't get the girl in pick out of my head. She's well.....to much. I'll post pictures later today. Its 7'6"X 9'2". I wanted a tub that everyone can enjoy. The more the merrier. I use to be picky but now at this time in my life, I like sharing.

Sorry to ruin your day. You should see the ones I "rejected" because they were too upseting.
::)
Anyhow, I agree a tub that you can entertan and share with others is great. As much as I like the soaks by myself, as well as with my wife. Haveing several friends over and sitting in the tub shooting the bull is great.
-
OK here are some pictures. I really had to jocky the tub around to get it close to the conduit. The picture of the power on the house is the GFCI above on the left and right below that is the service disconnect. I did all the wiring. Its easy to me. I enjoy doing it. I just got the dirt around the slab. And would like to seed this afternoon and get some straw on it. The sound system sound kick a$$. The sub shacks the whole tub. I'm on 18 acres and I know I'm going to enjoy the sunsets even more. I'll take that one this evening if its nice. G Oh btw how do I insert an image? I click on the box for image but this script comes on at the end of the post.

[imghttp://ghaddock.photosite.com/HaddockPictures/Ourphotos/Maxxus_hottub_3-1-06_00007.html]URL[/img]
Close. Your IMG tag up front isn't closed. and you have a URL tag near the end and you need to ref a jpg file.
-
Not sure what you mean. I was just pasting and couldn't get it.
The string of carectures you posted needs to end in "jpg" It looks like you have a site/location not an image you are posting.
Each "img" needs to be bracketed off. If you notice you're missing one after your first "img"
-
So that string your talking about you can post two img?
No. you need a "string" for each photo.
The string should be something like
http://muble.imageshack.us/imgmublesniff.jpg
and have a [ img ] string of funny stuff [ /img ] with no spaces between the img and brackets.
-
galen, maybe this will help.....click the photo button, replace the "URL" part with a link to where your photo is stored (online- photobucket, or wherever.....doesn't work from your hard drive)..... you'll have something like this (MINUS the extra spaces which I have to keep it visible for you): "[im g]http://ghaddock.photosite.com/HaddockPictures/Ourphotos/Maxxus_hottub_3-1-06_00007.html [/im g]" ..... the point was that the 'img" part has to have a full set of brackets around it at the beginning of the link AND at the end....your only problems with what was posted was a) first 'img' had only the first bracket, and wasn't "closed" before the "http" part......and you left in the second bracket and URL at the end....
"[imghttp://ghaddock.photosite.com/HaddockPictures/Ourphotos/Maxxus_hottub_3-1-06_00007.html]URL[/img]"
Hope that helped........?
Urp.....my bad, somewhere along the line I didn't notice it ended in 'html'....DOH.

OK Drewstar. Photosite.com i think is set up different May need to find a new site that has img at the end of the string. It has httml

(http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/5324/maxxushottub3106000054dx.jpg) Thanks to Drewstar and T-Lady for their help in how very stupid I am. I have never messed with this kind of code. I just didn't know which string to paste. Thanks.Galen

That looks mighty nice, galen. You sure do have a pretty place and a great spot for a spa. Congratulations! I'm sorry the dealer killed all your grass. :(
What kind of cover lifter is that?

(http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/8278/maxxushottub3106000093kw.jpg) It was real hard to make a clean entrance into the side of the tub.
-
I did all that. Thats my unloader. I'm going to try and seed /straw tomorrow.
-
Last one! I may take some tonight. I love the sunsets off the back here.(http://img425.imageshack.us/img425/6269/maxxushottub3106000061cz.jpg)

Is it tacky that I'm going to live in spatopia vicariously through all the pics on this site?
galen, I'm just going to "ooooooh" and "aaaaaaaah" over here for awhile.....TOO COOL.
-
I'm sorry the dealer killed all your grass. :(
Terminator
but Term, they left a groovy little skidloader and a patio set......that's gotta be worth the cost of growing a little grass, huh? My hubby would LOVE tearin' around on the skidloader....which is why we don't have one.
-
Wow. what a great set up. I love the view. ;D
What time is the party?
-
Every night at 7pm until the new wears off! I slep like a baby last night. Wife said I didn't even snore. She made a move on me in the tub. The only problem I see that I'm having right now is "crap" getting in the tub from the new concrete. I swept it but little stuff keeps getting in. I think I'll go get one of those sucker things. Spa vac?
-
The tub looks great!!!
I never bought one of those sucker things.... I just use a hose and start a siphon going out of the tub then suck out all the nasties. If you do it quick you wont lose that much water.
-
If you find you don't like the cover-holder-thingy, the Covermate III is what I use on my Maxxus. There are special extension brackets you'll need, and it will block your view in one direction, but it's a good rig. Nice setup you have! Congrats :).

I think I'll go get one of those sucker things. Spa vac?
Some call them "husband" or "wife".....how about a turkey baster? Go to the oversized hardware store and pick up a runner-style rug (where you cut it yourself)....it'd be like walking the red carpet everytime you went to soak!
-
Steve, I have a trifold top and a covermate caddy. but its made just for Maxxus. When the cover is on the tub, I can fold it down and the arms fold into the tub. It just sticks out a few inches. So you can mow close or if your gazzebo wall would get in the way. My top protrudes 6 or so inches above the tub. So as to not block the view of the sunsets, which are on that end. Thats one of the reasons I bought the trifold top and this type of covermate. Picked up a spa vac this morning. It works great. Drop it in take your finger off the end and it fills with water and debris, lift it out and the water drains back into the tub. Filtering the nasties out.
-
I'm loving my Maxxus...I'm sure you are too. That cover caddie looks slick! Congrats on the new purchase. Beautiful home, beautiful view as well :).

drew...
You must keep your water level really low.
-
Nice job Galen. The view is great from your tub. You will have many a great evenings watching the sunsets.
Here is a hint. When your wife makes a move on you... don't resist.
;)
-
Galen, I bought an inexpensive set of the cushion floor mats that look like huge puzzle pieces to keep from tracking sawdust and stuff in the tub. There were problems when they froze up but I started bringing them in, dusting them off and then setting them out just before we go into the tub. It's kind of a pain but it does limit the debris we pick up. You can also wear flip flops. the other day I wore a pair out to the tub and my kids got out before me and they dripped on the way back to the house and my flip flops froze fast to the steps... ;D
Don't spend your money on a spa vac, you can buy the little hose splitter thing and create your own vac for about $3.00 (see my post on I survived my first water change). ;D good luck, your set up is fantastic!

I have a question about concrete. If I'm understanding Galen's posts correctly he poured his slab on friday and put his tub on it on monday. Both my dealer and concrete guy are telling me I need to wait a minimum of two weeks to let the concrete cure. Is this necessary? I'm in Arizona if that makes any difference. Please advise. ???
-
When I did my slab The concrete guy told me to wait 4-5 days for curing. I had 10 days before delivery so I never had concern. I think todays concrete can be made to cure very fast if the correct mix of chems are used.
-
I like that Iceman in AZ. LOL Iceman Friday morning I got on the skidsteer, fired that mother up, Drove down to the house, and scraped the grass off the pad site. I had a leftover pile of gravel from when I built my barn, brought two scoops of gravel down. Left the keys in it and went to work. Got home around 3, the pad was done. Steve came back around 5 after the concrete had setup hard and put some thremal blankets over the top of the pad because it was going to get down below 25 that night. Monday, which in good ole Missouri, was 75 last monday. Steve removed the blankets and forms and said I'll catch you later. I drove down to the creek and scooped up some nice black dirt and filled in around the tub. Called Steve and ask when I could put the tub on it. He said " your not in your tub yet?" He's got one too. So they brought the tub Tuesday after noon. Sorry for the long post. Steve is an excellent flat work man. And he knows I want it right. Steel is on one foot centers.Steve added 2% calcium chloride and it was a 4000 lbs. mix.
-
Hey guys, thanks for the concrete info.
