Title: Full Foam Tubs Don't Freeze over ...
Post by: Vinny on January 06, 2006, 09:40:05 pm
... and I have proof.

I came home yesterday and my tub had a power outage. the temp display was blinking and it didn't freeze over!

Of course it was only a power blip as nothing else but an alarm clock was affected and the air temps were hovering around 40º F! :D ;D ;)

On a serious note, I think the tub was reset for about 12 hours and only lost between 2 to 4º (hey I like this º thing). The tub resets itself to 95 and I was happy to see that it's that efficient; at a lower temp, even 1/2º an hour would be great.

I've been tempted to shut the heater down on my tub and see how long it takes for the temp to drop 'x' degrees.
Of course, it was 75 today, and will probably only drop to about 55, so I'm guessing it would impress... no one.

Vinny,
Your full foam, will protect your spa from freezing for a few days. If you have a power outage for longer than that, give me a call, I live just 45 minutes south of you, I'll winterize the tub for you. Dave.

No way!  Surely, your equipment exploded due to the expansion of the ice!  I've seen it stated on this forum that it is a foregone conclusion, your equipment will explode.

I have taken the proper steps in case of an extended freeze.

I have a attached a funnel to the outside of my spa in the equipment area and I keep 10 gallons of gas ready. If for any reason I become concerned about my tub freezing - I pour in the gasoline and light a match! It's got to work better than sterno! ::)

I was gonna test it but decided I would just do the drill instead! ;D

Napalm would be as effective, and probably easier to handle.  Liquid gasoline would be harder to use.
Anyone know what the Ph of nepalm is?

That depends on whether it's Open Cell Foam or Closed Cell.  ???
