When I wet tested and evetually purchased my new hot tub, some of the dealers had "disposable" suits for the customers to wear for wet tests. (made from tyvek material).
Although not the most fashionable things, I was pretty impressed with the men's swim trunks, they were fairly comforatbale and held up well in the water.
I'd like to purchase some of these to have on hand for the folks who don't bring/forget thier suits.
Does anyone know of a good source for these? And what the costs might be? I did a quick search of google and found a few places, but didn't know if anyone could offer further advice? Are the ones for the women comfortble?

Tyvek...doesn't it kind of float? How about body paint....
you could get it to match your shell cover ;D
-
tyvek material is pretty durable and I was surprised. My wife has been bugging me to find some and I haven't gotten around to it.
Body paint might work, who's going to apply it? ;)

I guess when I think of Tyvek I remember my days working in pharmaceutical clean rooms. It is HOT, it bellows because it doesn't let air escape and it was very unpleasant to wear. And isn't it slipery when it gets wet? One thing I do know positive, it doesn't shed fibers.
I can't wait to tell my husband they are making bathing suits from Tyvek....

Ah, the old disposable "bunny suits".
keep in mind these swim suits are trunks and do not have elasticized cuffs so air circulates. They are not the greatest thing in the world, but if could pick up a dozen at a reasonable price, I would consider it.
From the site that Chris pointed, the female suits looked very uncomfortable.

Chris_H & drewstar,
I'm curious myself. I sent them and email for pricing. I'll let you know what they say.

excellent Phil. I was about to do the same and got side tracked. Please keep let me know what they say. :D

Isnt' Tyvek the stuff they wrap houses in to seal them up better? You could always run to the nearest Home Depot, purchase a roll, and make your own. One roll of the stuff would last a lifetime.
And your friends will probably never forget to bring swimtrunks to your hot tub parties ever again.

Are they biodegradable? While not exactly a tree hugger, I'm a little upset about the resurgence of disposable cleaning items these days. The swiffers and toilet wands of the day remind me when disposable rage hit in the 60's.

Better be careful. Show any more of those environmental concerns and Term, Brewman Tman, and Lt. Dan may be hauling you off for commie/liberal reprogramming. :o

Tyvek is not biopdegradable.

drewstar, don't be a tightwad!!!!
I go down to Sam's Club from time to time and pick up some nice designer swimwear for customers to use when they test soak. They get to keep the swimsuit as a gift. You can get really nice ones that say $79 on the price tag, but you paid $15 for them. Leave the tag on, tell your guests to keep the suit, and you'll be considered a high roller!

I had to tell my husband about the tyvek suits. He reminded me that they have virtually no stretch and actually will breakdown a bit in water, but probably not from one use. Drewstar, I am the shopping queen. I picked up several nice men and boys Speedo suits (shorts- jam style) at Kohls end of season sale for $2.75. I wasn't really planning on inviting many people in my tub, but if the occasion arrises (and they are very very clean friends) I have several extra swim suits for the guys and ;D I am environmentally correct..

sneaky sneaky, all your customers will know you only paid $15 bucks, hahahahhahha

Trunks for a few bucks? That's the way to go then. I will send my wife out on the mission. She's a pro. ;)

Only for the menfolk. They have a less-than-desirable effect on the gentler sex.

OK, here's the scoop, directly from swimeeze.com. Yesterday, I sent an email to their web site and received this nice response from Holly at Stanleykem Inc., makers of Swimeeze:
Hi Phil and thanks for the inquiry and email. I had a look at the "What's the best hot tub" forum--great reading! And I will respond.
I've attached our price list. The minimum order is 12 suits and we invoice individuals through PayPal. If you don't already have a PayPal account it is very easy (and safe) to set up.
We've been using Tyvek for our swim suits for almost 20 years with many customers who have been with us since the beginning, including the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, worldwide. The Tyvek that we use is not the grade that is used for housewrap and it probably isn't the same one that you use for kites but it shares the strength properties of all Tyvek. The suits can be worn several times if desired.
If you have any other questions, please ask.
ps. the women's suits are very comfortable!
Cheers,
Holly Gnaedinger

And here's the price breakdown per the pdf file Holly sent:
710 Men's swim trunks S, M, L, XL, XXL $ 5.75
Mixed dozen: 2S, 4M, 4L, 1XL, 1XXL $69.00
711 Women's one-piece swimsuit XS, S, M, L, XL $ 6.00
Mixed dozen: 2XS, 4S, 3M, 2L, 1XL $72.00
810 Boy's swim trunks S, M, L $ 4.85
811 Girl's one-piece swimsuit S, M, L $ 5.40
I was kinda hopin' they'd have a mixed dozen which would include both sexes and kids but I guess that's not realistic with all the various sizes. Maybe not for the general hot tub consumer...
Still, I bet some of you dealers may want to look into this for your wet testing customers.

Thanks for the follow up Phil. I appreciate it.
Hmmm. $5.75 isn't too bad. Not great, but not bad. I'll pass the data onto the book keeper (wife).
However, as previously stated, if I could get the wife to find a special on more traditional suits for less money ($3.00, ) thats the way (for me) to go. But finding such a deal would be more hit or miss. ....
And for the record: I don't like Term calling me a "tight wad" either. I don't want him talking about my wad at all, or how tight it is or isnt. It just seems wrong. :)

Hello everyone. I'm Holly Gnaedinger, the president of Stanleykem Inc, the manufacturer/distributor of Swimeeze disposable swim suits. We've been selling the suits for almost 20 years and our clients include major hotel chains, commercial spas and private pool/spa owners (you can read all about us at www.swimeeze.com). People use them when they forget their own suits when travelling and don't want to pay big bucks for a new one, or, in the case of many women, don't want to subject their expensive suits to chlorine and/or spa treatments. Home pool and hot tub owners are increasingly purchasing them for their own and guest use.
Yes, the suits are made from Tyvek, but not the same grade as is used in house wrap. There are many different grades of Tyvek for a wide variety of uses (envelopes to clean rooms). I do agree that the fabric doesn't breathe but the issue of getting hot doesn't seem to be a problem for the wearer of a swim suit in a heated pool or hot tub.
The suits were developed after a great deal of testing with real people and were deemed to be comfortable and well-fitting. Designing swim wear for a fabric that doesn't stretch was a formidable task for our designer but all our feedback has been very positive (the suits were redesigned 2 years ago).
As for the environmental concerns that some of you raised re. Tyvek not being biodegradable (it can be safely incinerated) I would like to assure you that I have given the issue considerable thought. I have resisted moving our manufacturing to China, where we could produce an even cheaper garment, but have instead stayed in North America where are workers get a living wage and we are not polluting the environment to the same extent that they are in China.
Although we call our suits disposable because they are cheap enough to justify purchasing for one wear and it is a term that everyone is familiar with, we encourage our purchasers to use them several times when applicable.
Swimeeze swim suits may not be right for every hot tub owner but if you do want to give them a try please contact me at holly.gnaedinger@swimeeze.com.
