A new reason not to buy from this scum.
I ordered 10 new jets (forget about the fact that I have now had to replace 12 jets in 2.5 years). They came wrong and were returned - ok shit happens.
Now two months later they do not respond to emails and when I call their retail store (from which you must order - I am told to go to corporate - who doesn't answer).
Two months later no jets, no information no f**kin customer service - I guess they spell it customer's cervix - because they are screwing me again.
Bottom line they take your money then they disappear - even if you pay in advace for your parts.
-
ouch!
-
Well at least they are consistant....
-
I can't believe they're still in business with all the bad press they continually get. I don't get it? ???
-
Remember there are hundreds of thousands of tub buyers that do not know a thing about these web pages we frequent. A very very small percentage of buyers visits these type sites before or after there purchase. More and more are but it's still small.
-
Dino,
Just curious, who is your current local dealer? I know your original dealer is out of business.
Thanks,
Chris
-
Basically I have no local dealer - Central Jersey (from whom a number of we fellow screwee's bought) is too far away and wants lots of $$$ for a service call as does Hi-Tech (Larry is great but who needs a service call to screw in 10 jets).
Pelican now carries CalSPa locally but will not service them if they did not sell them - I guess I could have bought the part there but it would still have to be shipped from Corporate (because the stem of my jets is out of style nobody seems to stock them - amazing the tub was only built in 2003 but then again with over 10 broken it did need to be changed).
And since it would have to have been shipped from Corporate life would still suck - they send it wrong and don't tell you when they are out of stock - just let you wait.
I am sick of spending my life on the phone with these assholes - anyone got a plane - maybe I should just return it "air mail".
-
Chris_H WHy do you ask???? <eom>
-
From reading your experiences, I had an idea that Pelican was now the closest dealer to you. I find it somewhat appalling that a company, with as many stores that they have, doesn’t service Cal Spas they didn’t sell.
I just find that to be wrong. Just my opinion. I am sure there are some reputable Cal Spa dealers in New Jersey.
-
"reputable Cal Spa Dealers" Isn't that an oxymoron?
I must say that Pelican has been helpful - they did put me in touch with Hi-Tech.
Now if the damn thing would just stop breaking!

Good point. In my area, Cal spa is probably the most advertised and has the most retail outlets. And they all stay in business. In fact, a co-worker has one of their spas, going on 4 years, and she's had no problems.
So they must make a good one every once and a while.
Glad I found out about them during my research, though.

I see many dealers carrying Cal Spa only for a few years then switching - your friend must be different.
-
It really Su*ks to read this stuff about CalSpa over and over again. It is amzing how evil people prosper. My cousin replaced jet's, heaters, motors, and anything else that would break. Service departments that are just a bunch of idiot's. Warrenties that are really are not backed up. One thing that CalSpa can not compete with is word of mouth. You can only screw so many people for only so long. The word is building and spreading. Just not fast enough.
-
I would send Dino the jets.
-
dino,
I hate to say it but, you should have bought a Sundance when you had the chance. I'm sure you shopped them, they may have been a little more money BUT, this is why...
You hate to see a consumer buy based of price but they do.

Should we all chip in a hundred bucks to see if we can get Dino a new spa?
I'm in for a hundred - if he promises to get a HotSpring.
;)
-
Chas,
I'll go two for either a Sundance or Marquis...
AND, I'll deliver it right to his home, remove the Cal Spa,
rewire the new one and put the Cal where it really
belongs..., in the trash.
That's not too harsh, is it? I would contribute. :P

I had a friend who had a Sundance and it leaked like a sive.Come to find out they had a defective glue they were using during that time frame. What a mess that was.He did finally get another spa that was of higher quality.
-
What was higher quality, the glue? There aren't many spas out there that are made better TODAY than Sundance.
Back in the mid 80's Sundance introduced the air injector system,... nightmare. >:(
In the mid 90's, Sundance used this blue glue, it was a disaster. :-/
Today, not many issues, thank god... 8)

Yes, there was a problem with glue joints: a vendor let them down in a big way. But being the company that they are, they fixed the tubs - often taking back tubs which were just past warranty etc.
A smaller company might have left all the spa owners hanging. Or, a large company which just didn't care....
This is history. Shoppers don't need to worry about this happening again.
-
Chas,
I'll bet we must of dug out 50 to 60 spas back then,
replaced all of the glue joints AND Sundance paid for all
of it. That IS the difference between a reputable
manufacturer/dealer relationship and some others.

Dino's situation is unique in that it is rare.Sorry it won't happen again.I have offered to replace his jets and he won't respond.I have PM'd him and no response.perhaps this is part of the problem!Maybe he does not want help if he does not respond to offers of service.Kinda frustrating listening to someone B#tch, and them not taking help offered.Perhaps he does not want to fix his tub as he would have nothing to b#tch about. One more time, Dino, I have every thing you need at my disposal let me know what you need and I will ghot to work getting what you need.
-
spaman,
Good for you. You're trying to assist him and getting
nowhere because you may be right, maybe he doesn't
want any help. Some consumers just like to complain.
hottubber... ;D
-
Not to defend Dino, but he doesn't post much here unless it's to post CAL SPAS SUCK or similar. He provides no input otherwise or advise for other consumers.
Maybe the guy would rather whine than get looked after? I've seen people like that before and he wouldn't be the first? ???
I'm glad someone has offered to step up and I guess we'll see how receptive he is at taking this help...

Thanks - I will get back to you on the jets - the 8 I ordered have arrived and are now installed (my complaint was about the service I got from their retail outlet and how "corporate said to call Retail and Retail said to call Corporate. - They did get here after 10 weeks and I should have posted that.
Two more have broken and if they can not be popped back in I will be happy to ask for your help - you at least are a gentleman (woman? sorry I do not know).
As to why I have not responded please forgive me I generally check in only once a day or so and was not able to recently.
As Steve pointed out I do not respond where I do not have expertise so other than on the subject of Cal SPa and how they have treated me and others I am generally a lurker.
I have posted on the IPE herringbone deck I built with no screw holes just Eb-tys and an integrated step/towel warmer. I have this board to thanks for telling me how to size the step (equal to the interior step onto which you will be transferring your weight).
I should add that I have found the towel warmer less needed. (my neighbors might be happier if I used the towel more often in my mad dashes to and from the house).
Finally I have also spoken about the TV setup I installed using an indoor TV hooked to the tub speakers - you can actually hear it over the jets!
SO thanks I will get back to you regarding the Jets - but I will also continue to dump on Cal Spa.
-
Yoou know Sundance was my first choice but the dealer only had one non-comparable tub to wet test and though I called over a five week period he would not fill up anything configured like an Atima (??).
He was small in a small space here in NJ so I understood but. I think walking into the enourmous showroom of my thieving CalSpa dealer I was influenced by the difference - to my detriment.
-
Chas - let me know when the collection gedts up there - I will even do the deck modifications to make it happen.
Thanks

I am glad to help when needed.I have jets and it sounds like you have quite a set up.I would hope that if you recieve good service from me that you would post it as well. I take care of evryone I can, no matter where they are.Let me know if I can do anything.
-
I will certainly post the good with the bad - and even try to lean a little harder when I see the good!
I just noticed your tagline on your ID - I like it - but maybe you could make it less perjorative? How about "lost soul" instead of loser (I would have said victim but then I would have been guilty of what I read into your version.

Dino, My tagline is only geared at one individual and if I told you who it was you would agree that my tag line shouldstay the way it is.When he is gone I will change my entire tagline.Anyone who knows me knows the mission I'm hell bent and set on.hopefully you understand,I know it looks horrible, but there is method to it.

Spaman, in the mid '90's there was a mandate by the EPA to reduce emissions into the atmosphere that were depleting our upper atmospheric ozone layer. You, may recall when all of the automotive airconditions stopped using freon covered under the same mandate.
I don't know that I would call it "defective glue" but it certainly was a new chemical compound that did not give off the emissions. The propreties of this glue certainly changed and it was different. The cure and life expectancy had changed without manufacturers knowing it.
This affected the counter top laminate industry as well, and a large numer of Hot Tub manufacturers, unfortunately learned of the resulting problems 4 to 5 years after the fact. Many of these problems were either covered while under warranty and many even out of warranty. This is where a "good" dealer made the difference for the customer.
Now, the issues is 8 to 10 years behind us and you can believe me when I tell you that the way spas are plumbed today by ALL manufacturers is different. It is the learning process of the industry and the evolution of the Hot Tub as we know it today.
