Title: What type of insulation
Post by: Rayman on May 26, 2005, 09:12:14 am
Does Beachcomber use open cell or closed cell, and what are the advantages/disadvantages?

I am going to take shot and say Closed Cell.  I would hope that all Full Foam tub MFG's used Closed Cell.

Differences, Open Cell has the ability to absorb water/moisture and Closed Cell does not.

Actually, they use a 2 lb closed cell around the outside perimeter of the cabinet as well as on the bottom of the shell, but half pound open cell with everything in between.

Why not closed cell everywhere?

HotSpring uses closed cell, but I have seen it absorb water.

Sudance uses open cell, and I have seen it absorb water.

I could be wrong here (I was once in June of '02 ;D) but 2lb closed cell is known to be more of a structural foam where open celled has a higher r-value until wet.

Do you know Leslie at KoHo?

No, I have seen her name on a few posts here though, i lived in Barrie for 8 years and hadn't been in KOHO.  Just moved down to Brampton and the first thing I see is this Beachcomber dealer and fell in love with a tub.

She's a real sweetheart :-* and one of the best in the business!  You had made mention of Koho so I thought I'd check. Thanks,
