Title: Electricity Hook Up Charge
Post by: TC on January 11, 2005, 06:17:05 pm
I'm getting my hot tub installed this Thursday and was quoted a $450.00 electric hook up charge.   The tub is a Caldera Elation.  The electrician has to run a 220 volt line from the box in my basement to a deck on the first floor.  Is that a good price?  I've never had this type of work done before and need some direction.  Thanks in advance for your response.

Sounds cheap to me. Did he see the site prior to this quote? What size of breaker is going to use and will there be a quick disconnect outside by the tub? Is this all done to code in your area?

Tc - sounds pretty cheap to me.....but I guess it depends how much wire is needed to run from the main panel - to the subpanel - then dont forget from the subpanel to the spa.

The sub panel to the spa connection should be run thru water tight conduit.  If your electrician has run spas before - then maybe he will be prepared for everything...if not.....then you might want to check with you dealer to see if they recommend someone to get a second quote ?

To be honest - its not really that hard to wire - the directions provided by Caldera are very good.

That is a deal, just the material will be way over $450.00   GFI panel $250, Cabel 6 wire $25.00 @ yard and breaker between $30 to $60  plus labor aprox 2 hours plus service call... I would say you got a deal...

Doesn't Caldera provide the GFCI panel?  If so then $450 sounds about right.  We paid $625 but that had to include the panel as well.

Thanks so much for the response.  The GFCI panel is  included in the price of the spa.  The electrician subcontracts for Watson's (where we bought the spa) and the price is $450.00 for the first 40 feet and $5.00 for every foot beyond that.  My guess is that it will cost me somewhere around $500.00 or so.  Anyway, thanks again for the info.  I wish I would have found this site a long time ago.  The amount of information is  incredible....... I finally feel "armed" with some data.

I just had mine done for 485.00 but I bought the box from the hot tub dealer for 100.00.

in California, I paid 1,100.00 to have it done, 220 volt, here in NC it was a lot less.

my tub can't come soon enough!!!!
