Title: Concrete thickness?
Post by: Zac on June 07, 2020, 06:33:14 pm
Pouring a 100" by 100" concrete pad for a 94"by94" hot tub.  When filled with water the brochure says it will weigh roughly 4700lbs.  I figure call it 6000lbs with people (we won't ever have more than that in it).

I want to ensure it's done right. How thick should I ensure the concrete is below it to avoid cracking?  Is there any value in letting the concrete sit for a period of time before putting the tub on it?  How long?  Thanks!

I just went through this and everything says 6” thick concrete with 4-6” of stone below that. How long to wait is weird. I’ve had some concrete specialists say a couple days and some say at least 30 days. No idea why the answer varied so much.

I'd frame it up with 2" x 6" to give you around 5.5" of concrete give or take and make sure it's reinforced with re bar and/or wire mesh or both.  A full 7 day cure time is enough and usually what's recommended in my experience. Good Luck!
