Title: RODI water for hot tub?
Post by: nymxracer on February 03, 2016, 12:38:15 am
Does anyone know if its beneficial to use RODI water?  My tap water is decent with a 36 PPM on my TDS meter, but I can get that down to zero by filtering it. Also, I don't know if once I strip the water of all impurities will I have to add any nutrients back in? Or will I be ahead of the game because I'm starting with pure water? Thanks in advance. 😊

Do you have any idea how much it costs you to filter 400 gallons or so?  32PPM as you say is a pretty good starting point.

Shouldn't be that bad as I can find other uses for the waste water which is still much cleaner than the tap. I already have an RODI unit for my reef tank and I have plenty of new filters because I stocked up when I had a large tank. I've since downgraded to a 10 Gal so I probably have enough filter to last me for the next 15 years. I could also skip the DI and just use RO which will speed up the process and create less waste. Just wondering if I started with pure water if I'd be ahead of the game. Or not?

Maybe I'll be the first psycopath/test dummy to try this?

Yes, you'll need to bring the TDS back up. So, take it out, then put it back...sounds like a waste.
