Title: coleman vs sundance
Post by: mijoda52 on July 15, 2004, 09:17:50 pm
I am trying to decide between a Coleman 706 and a Sundance Altamar. Both tubs seem to have premium features and are basically the same price. Does anyone want to share an opinion on these two manufacturers?
Thanks

Coleman are made by the same company (MAAX) that makes Elite, Nahanni (The Home Depot brand) and many others. I cannot comment based upon personal expereince, and there seems to be many people happy with thier Colemans, but MAAX does not seem to have the best name in the industry for quality/service/support, unlike the gold standard of Sundance, Hot Springs, Beachcomber, Marquis, Vita, etc.

Maax has had several recalls on heaters over the past year.

Happy happy joy joy,I get to talk about my Coleman 706 spa.
My first Coleman was a 1994 Horizon 411, great spa and the top of the Coleman line at the time. I sold it to a neighbor in Jan. and replaced it with a 2004-706. I've had my spa since Feb. and I'll in love with tubbing all over again.
What an awesome spa this is. The lounger has 16 jets and they are powered by one of the three 2 1/2 H.P. two speed pumps this tub has. It is my favorite seat! It has above the water neck therapy, Hip jets, upper, middle, and lower back jets, calve jets, and 4 foot releif zone jets under a molded hooded area just for your feet.
I've sat in other Coleman Spa's over the years, and they were a good fit but none have fit me like this spa.

Chris H,
This recall was not on the Coleman brand of spas. It states it was on Lifestyle and Infinity brand spas. Coleman spa's has never in the ten years I've been selling them recalled their heators..
Get the facts right please!

I never said they had a recall.  Spaguyohio said there was a recall.  I just showed a website that he may be talking about.  Read first - then type.

Now that I am re-reading spaguyohio's comments he said MAAX (not Coleman) had recalls on their heaters.

spahappy, it ia OK... we are all in love with our spa's and become a tad touchy when there is anything negative posted about our brand.

Lifestyle, Infiniti, Coleman, Elite, Nahanni.... all made by MAAX. Can anyone think of any others?

Does each line have unique compnents????

Thanks everybody :) I appreciate the feedback. I ordered the Coleman 706 today and tomorrow we start framing for the patio. We had a spa in Missouri (a Dynasty Lancelot) but we sold it with our house when we moved to Pennsylvania. We are having severe "spa withdrawal". Even though we had a good experience with the Lancelot, I think the Coleman 706 is going to be a real step up for us. The count down is on and we can hardly wait!!

Thanks for answering my question.

My "open ended comment" was a question to JohnnyThunders  in response to JohnnyThunders open ended comment.  As you can now see he has answered my question.

It is quite amusing seeingthese comments on the recall(s). Maax never did "manufacture" a heater. If there is ever a recall from a component manufacturer, it likely affects multiple manufacturers. I can name a dozen manufacturers that use WaterWay power storm jets. Since there introduction to the market in 2000-2001 there have been five revisions. For me to say the Beachcomber or Arctic or Hydro-Pool had a jet recall would be asinine. Sounds like a jealous competitor bashing! :P

:) :)We bought the Coleman 481 deluxe model back in April. We wet tested several hotspring,D-1,Caldera,Jacuzzi models(which are all very nice spa's) but we liked the feel of the lounge and seats better in the coleman.Had one problem with the waterfall which when i called my dealed they sent someone over the following day...I am very happy with mine and can't wait to get home 2nite from work so i can soak...Also wet test as everybody on this board suggests....Congrats on your purchase and HAPPY SOAKING.. :) :) :)...Dano
