Title: Cloudy water challenge
Post by: beez on October 23, 2015, 12:28:59 pm
We received our Marquis Promise hot tub earlier this month and we are having a problem with cloudy water.  I filled the tub using a hose filter being we have a well and it does have iron in it.  We have brought samples into our dealer to have the water tested each week.  Since day one,  our alkalinity (80-120) has been on the low range of normal and our ph has not wavered from 8.4.  We use bromine and that has been in the 2 ppm range.  Additionally, we have shocked the tub weekly and have added both alk increaser followed by PH decreaser a day later.  We have yet to get the PH to budge and the water is cloudy.  A couple of days ago we used water clarifier.  None of this seems to have any impact.  Any thoughts as to why we can't seem to get the water clear.  Also, how do you fight high PH and low ALK?

Your TA is not low.  50 ppm would be low that would lessen the rate of pH rise.  80-120 ppm doesn't make sense for spas unless they are using net acidic chemicals -- that range is more what you find for pools using Trichlor (though TA can be even higher in such pools).  I wouldn't go above 80 ppm in TA in a spa if the pH is tending to rise.
