Title: Getting ready to pour a concrete pad
Post by: Thedoc on September 24, 2015, 11:02:19 pm
I am getting ready to pour a 14x24 concrete pad for a future hot tub.... have not made a decision on which one yet...I will be reinforcing with wire mesh will that be enough or should I add rebar where the tub will sit.. concrete will be run from 4-6 inches deep.

It's probably fine with 4 to 6" and mesh, but I personally prefer adding rebar.

Technically, if it's less than 6" you shouldn't use rebar as it will actually cause cracking along the rebar.

Will the concrete company offer adding fiber to the mix for strength?  We've had great results with that for over a decade on monolithic slabs.

Thanks for the replies I have been out of town and just got back.....they will add fiber I am pretty sure so I guess I will go with the 10ga. mesh

Probably overkill for this as the fiber will give more strength than mesh will and none of the issues with corrosion, etc., but good luck whatever you decide.
