Title: Automatic Cover
Post by: Tomshop on January 05, 2014, 04:28:51 pm
My area requires an automatic cover unless we gate the spa which we don't want to do. What hot tubs besides Diamond Spas has that option?

Hi Tomshop - the only one that I know of and have seen as the Covana.  Sorry I do not know the pricing or any other details.  Perhaps someone on the forum has or sells them can be of further help.  They can be used with different brands of spas.

Thanks. I will probably go with Diamond Spas which makes an integrated one.

I helped a guy with an old garage door opener in a gazebo fabricate a pretty cool deal that lifted his cover up to the ceiling of the gazebo, by remote even. But the harness that lifted the cover prevented it from making a good seal when it was down. There was talk of a custom made cover with the harness built in. Not sure where that went.

These are about 1/4 the cost of the Covana

What "area" are you in, and whom is requiring this? I've NEVER heard of anything like this. Either a proper locking gate OR an ASTM approved manual safety cover is what's generally required by every municipality and/or governing body I know of.

Yes a locking gate is required which I prefer to not do. This is in Manhattan.

Hi,
I’m not sure why an automatic cover lift would be required anywhere.  I’ve never heard of them before, so I assume they are not very common.   I have heard of jurisdictions requiring either a fenced in spa area or locks for the hold down straps on spa covers.   All of the spas I have seen have the “strap locks”.  If the purpose is to prevent unauthorized people (especially children) from accessing your spa, the “strap locks” should do the trick.

Even the Peoples Rebublic of Maryland doesn't require that. :)

I've never seen that one until now. Looks like a pretty cool cover lifter. My whole thing is the first fold of the tri-fold cover. If you have to go out and manually open(and shut it when done) the first fold of the tri-fold, then I wouldn't be interested in a option like that. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of having a remote control cover lifter doesn't it? I didn't look at the site very long, and maybe they do have options that will open and close the cover completely with the touch of a button?
