Title: Sodium Carbonate or Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate for Hot Spring Spa
Post by: sfchein on September 28, 2013, 06:46:42 pm
I have the new Gleam model Hot Spring Spa. PH was low so I got some ph Up- Soda Ash from my local Home Depot. Is this a safe alternative until I can order some from my Hot Spring dealer?
Thanx for your help.

You don't mention what reading you got for TA (Total Alkalinity) so I can really answer. But I will say this: Baking soda from your kitchen or laundry room will raise both TA and pH, but after things settle a bit, the TA will be a bit higher than pH.

Thank you for your reply.

I believe it was at about 180 and PH was about 7.2..., maybe a shade less on the color strips.

You can see a variety of grocery/hardware store equivalents of pool & spa chemicals in this post (http://www.troublefreepool.com/blind-faith-and-this-forum-t23196-20.html#p190888).
