I would like opinions on what the pros consider to be the best filter cleaner.
Also, How often should this be done?

stick with the name brands, leisure time, bioguard, GLB, etc. and it is mostly all the same stuff...acid and soap, that's really it...just make sure to rinse the heck out of your filters afterwords to avoid any foaming
as far as how much well a lot will depend on usage but a rule of thumb is at every drain/refill assuming your rinsing at least monthly
