Title: 2011 Hotspring - ACE low salt
Post by: robmet1015 on May 07, 2012, 09:44:06 am
Have an issue with Hotsprings...at least I think I do.
I have 2011 Vista with ACE system.  The tub is 8 months old now and working perfectly.
I clean filters every month, spray cleaner every 3rd month.
Clean ace cell every 3 months.

This past week I noticed the chlorine was not being generated as the test strip showed no FCL/BR chl.
Salt reading was in YELLOW range (LOW).
I then shutdown tub, cleaned cell and filters like I normally do.  I did this on the May 5th.
Fired it back up and it is still showing LOW SALT.  I let it sit 24 hrs and reading is still the same.
I shocked the tub with reg. chl and reading is still low salt after 2 days.
I cleaned cell again for 10 minutes in solution.
The reading is barely creaping in GREEN but still at bottom.
I usally had it in middle.  I know I have 1200 ppm in tub and had water test at dealer on 6th.  They told me to wait 48 hours and call them.

Does anyone have any input?  Yes I do have use level at 4 and spa size setting at 8.

CHAS....any ideas?

Rob

few questions for you

1. is that original 8 month old water?
2. has your "standpipe" the cell sits in been replaced with the updated "taller" standpipe
3. what is your calcium level at?

I changed the water in March 2012...so 2 month old water
Not sure about standpipe but got tub installed in August 2011
Calcium is at 56 but cell just cleaned as well.

approx. 4-6 months ago a new "updated" cell was released...the holes in the bottom of the cell are larger and it also had a new "standpipe" which is about 1/8" inch longer than the old one.  Since you are still under warranty I would call your dealer and have them install the updated cell as well as the updated standpipe.  I'm not saying 100% your cell is bad, but diagnosing an ACE over the internet is not so easy, and since your under warranty still I would just have the updated parts installed and be done with it for piece of mind

Thank you.  I'll inquire with the dealer.  It is strange that it was working for 8 months and for last week it just stopped generating CHL.  Cleaned cell/filters/etc no change.

What does the 1/8" increase and larger holes accomplishment.  The added length in standpipe does not seem like a lot .  Is the cell different or just has larger holes?

Thanks guys.

They tightened up the clearance between the cell and the standpipe to force more water through the slots in the cell.

It does make a difference. The factory sent out a note to dealers giving a part number for the upgraded standpipe, which they provided to dealers at no cost. I have had one problem with an ACE system and a call to "Customer Service" got me a new cell sent at no charge. That was it - the other systems I have sold all came with the new stuff and have worked perfectly.
