Title: Drain Water to replace Thermostat ?
Post by: pratzert on December 18, 2010, 02:42:38 pm
Hi.  I have a Jacuzzi J-350 and I "think" the thermostat needs replacing.

About 2 years ago I got it replaced with just a few days left under warranty.

I did sort of watch the tech replace it, but I cant' remember if he drained the water out of the tub below the level of the thermostat or just let the eater flow out the hole.

So.... do I need to drain water to replace the thermostat ?

And before I order a thermostat... my tub was showing odd temperature readings for w while.  even though I usually set the tstat for 90 when we are not using it, it would show a higher temp even if the evening got pretty cool.

And then it took like 14 hours to raise the water temp up to 98 degrees.

But now that it hit that temp, I have left it set at that temp and it has maintained it for two weeks without a problem.

Do you think it could be something else besides the temp sensor/thermostat ?

Thanks.

Tim

I would kick it up to 103 and see if it holds that, usually a bad stat will be a high temp with cold water, or the spa will go into watchdog --- on the display, or possibly read OH for a over temp even though the water is cold.

And yes you do have to drain water just below the temp sensor to replace.   Also make sure you get the box end temp sensor not the curled finger one.  Part# 6600-167
