Title: Ok dealers?
Post by: Jacuzzi Jim on May 07, 2008, 07:42:06 pm
I had a guy named guy come in pushing this stuff called Silk Balance, he gave us a sample pack to try, which we are.  Think it may have potential.   Olympic Hot tub in Seattle carries it and spoke highly of it when I called them.

Any of you guys hear of it or have thoughts??

Heres a link to Olympics's site

http://olympichottub.stores.yahoo.net/silkbalance.html

Seems a bit on the spendy side, but if it works may be worth it.

I spoke with Guy Gudbois?  I think thats his name.  He sent me a sample bottle that I need to try out.  Its definetely a very interesting product.  The only problem I have is it is very pricey from what I understand.  That hurdle can be jumped if it performs like said.

$169.00 every 3-4 months?  WOW...way too expensive for my spa maintenance budget.  Interesting how they make water maintenance without SilkBalance sound so difficult here (http://www.silkbalance.com/SilkBalance_brochure_US.pdf)...that's marketing psychobabble for sure.

He is the same "Guy" I talked to also, probably Dan as well.   We have not talked cost yet, so we shall see where we come in at as far as retail goes.  If it works well people will pay for it.

I am going to try it on my next drain and refill.

It is pricey.  However, if it does what it is supposed to do in a way as simple as it is, it should be a winner.

More marketing psychobabble...

"Before the introduction of SilkBalance®, hot tub owners needed to spend 20-25 minutes each week testing and adjusting the water balance. Now, that task has been reduced to just five minutes a week."

Now, how many of you spend 20-25 minutes per week testing and adjusting your water?  I can have mine tested in about 3-4 minutes and take another 3-4 minutes to add any chems that may be needed.  And testing more than once a week is micromanaging, IMHO...a big NO NO!

They will reel some in for this overpriced stuff but not me... 8-)

Sold a spa?  Yes.    But thats not why it was a good weekend.   My wife had a good weekend as well.  ;)

We got the kids taken care of, and had a fantastic, well deserved weekend together.   Her b,day and our 15th anniversary is this next weekend,  but it wasn't going to work, so we made it this last one instead.   I wish we could get more of those!! They are to far and few between.  :'(

"I called Jacuzzi customer service today and spoke to a very helpful lady.  She told me that the program is only available at participating dealers.  (unfortunately we are not in an area with a participtating dealer)  She told me that the MSRP on the 480 without the stereo is $15,410 and with stereo it is $17,270."

Now THAT nonsense definitely leaves a mark...a big, nasty stain on the whole industry! :P

I haven't a clue what you are talking about Term. You want to buy a J-480?

I knew he would come around eventually! The 480 is a great spa and I'm sure he'll love it! ;)

I don't have a clue either but maybe he started drinking real beer with an alcohol content like Canadian beer and he's not used to it? ;D

What he is talking about is Jacuzzi claiming MSRP for over $17K w/stereo and people reporting here they pay less than $10K.  Jacuzzi claims the stereo is a $1800 accessory.  Check the posts here for the real value...if any. :(

I guess I don't see the problem. All dealers in my area including Hot Springs post high MSRP prices and then and much reduced price to give you the feeling that you are saving $4-5K on sale that goes year round. So from a buyers view it looks like all the spa dealers like to do this practice. It is just another sales tactic. The worst one in my area was my Coast dealer who told me that the Radiance was 17K and he was going to sell it to me for 13,500. When I priced a HS Grandee I was told it was a 14-15K tub and they could sell it to me for $10,500. Oh well......
