Have you ever heard a salesman say the product they were selling is garbage?

not from a salesmen from my brother who is giving it to me.

ThermoSpa's had a tendency to "over price" their spas so if they were quoted $8,900 as a value, it was probably more likely a $6,500 spa but if it's free, it's a GREAT deal! As far as resale value, Spa's like like most other used items, worth about 50% of their original sale price 3 years down the road. Therefore, your probably getting a tub worth about $2,500 to $3,000 for free. Pretty darn good but don't expect to get ANY support from ThermoSpa should anything go wrong. They are some of the WORST as far as support as they typically do not have local support for their products. If you do need service, just get it done by a local spa shop you trust.

Your initial question was: "Is this a good hot tub?"
If it is free, you are getting it for what it's worth. Thermo Spas does not have a good reputation in the industry. Their sales practices are reprehensible and their quality is suspect. They know how to market like the dickens.
If it's free, why not. I would never recommend buying a Thermo Spa.
