Title: First frost!
Post by: Chad on October 28, 2007, 09:22:35 am
Woke up this morning to a heavy coat of frost. It got down to 31 degrees here and is currently 32. Looks like I changed my water just in time. I'm waitin for my FC to drop a little as it's over 10 ppm(i just installed my N2 last night), so I can take full advantage of such a fantastic soakin morning.....

Here's to fall
Cheers,

Chad

ps- Are mosquitos, bugs, etc still around after the first frost?

Is that what that stuff is on the ground this morning?   ;D

Not sure about the bugs...I thought they were gone the other night when we soaked and it was about 40 out, but they may just be slowed down by the cold and come creeping out if it gets warm again.  Have a great soak!

The first frost stopped 20 miles north of me, no frost at home, but it backed the tee times aboutg 20 minutes.  Nice steam off the tub tonight.

No sight of frost in my neck of the woods yet. A sunny 70F today with a low of 45F tonight. Pretty much the same forecast all week here in middle TN.

....can't wait for the frost here. It doesn't look like we will have one for a few weeks.

My bro said he was soakin' last night in northeast Ohio ( east of Cleveland) and it was about 36F. I kind of miss that here....

Then again I DO NOT miss that lake effect snow in the winter...spa or no spa...I don't care for that wicked white stuff.    ;D

We were 95 today.  :)

It was cloudy and even drizzled yesterday though.

Perfect camping/fishing weather.  Can't wait to hot tub tonight.

First big frost by me this morning. Woke up at 6am to get my son ready for school and it was 30F and a thick coat of frost on evrything. Made my coffee and ridht into the tub. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   ;D

I needed it after yesterday. I had a Halloween party for my doughters. 45 7 to 10 year olds running all over the place. Thank God the weather was dry, I can not think of what I would of done if it rained. :P

Now that's what I call dedicated...45 kids?  Wow.  I am impressed.  I've done substitute teaching and backed off on the early years and focus on middle and high school since I just wasn't good at being a 'Kindergarden Cop'.  You have my respect for being able to do that and survive!

PS:  Getting into the low 20's here in Flagstaff, AZ.  Can't wait to make a decision on a tub and slip in like you, with a cup of java in the early AM and watch the frost!

I did not think there were that many until we started to line them up for a doughnut eating contest. I started doing a head count and was amazed when I counted 45.  :o

Between classmates and Girl Scouts and Brownie's, you can up there in numbers.

I woke up this morning to our first freeze. It's currently 25 degrees. Oh how you gotta love the up and down weather of MO. I'm gonna go grab another cup of joe and hit the spa. :)

32 here, just another frost. It did get down to 35 at tub time last night, so it was our first soak at 104 this season. I did get a look at the comet in Perseus last night. Its barely naked eye in town, but looks pretty cool in binoculars. Not much of a tail, looks like a big snow ball in the sky. Turned the tub down to 100 as we are going out of town this weekend, going to visit my nephew before his 2nd tour of Iraq next week.

I just had my first ever sub 35 degree soak...man it's wonderful while you're in there, but getting out sure is interesting. By the time I got back in the house, my suit was like wearing ice shorts, and I was half frozen! Other than loosing the suit while still in the tub, which is fine if there is no company or kids around, what tricks do you all have for getting to and (especially) from the tub without the feeling of eminant death?
I plan on taking my first sub freezing dip tomorrow morning at dawn. That should be a hoot. What do you guys do when its 10 degrees and snowing? Run like hell?
Or am I just a wuss?  :o

Joe,

I'm new to this; however, we have been in the low 20's at night when we soak and I had the same concerns.  My looser, more fashionable suits caused all sorts of problems with the 'cold, wet water' thing.  My wife wasn't having the problem and she has a form fitting suit.  I decided (not for the fashion, mind you!!!) to try a speedo form fitting suit designed for competition swimmers.  It works great...no exposure to the neighbors andwhen you get out it does not hold the water like my other suits and I just do a quick towel off and put on a spa robe.  No issues now and I can walk inside without the discomfort.  A friend has a spa robe holder that plugs in and keeps the robes warm....but he paid an arm and a leg for it and I'm not sure how much it really helps.

The suit was $24 at Big 5 (They carry them all year for the competitive swimmers) and the big fluffy spa robes that my wife bought were $24 at one of those online clearance websites.  Well worth the money.

I have found that I am actually so warm/hot after my soak that the cold air doesn't bother me.  We have a hook for our robes (all cotton and thick) right next to the tub and we put the robes on without towel drying or anything and it works to soak up the water.

Yup, I agree the Ice Shorts are something to be avoided.  And like Cyn, if I'm nekkid after a hot soak, the outside temp doesn't bother me at all.  So the trip back into the house is not a problem.

I've got to try the speedo idea, but I keep forgetting to look for one when I'm in the store.

I'm with Cyn on this one.  Grab the robe and I'm just fine, although a cold stiff winter wind may speed up my pace a bit.   :D

I'm only 10 feet away from my backdoor when I exit my spa, so I'm fine. I don't wear a suit, so no problems with dripping either.

If your spa is pretty far from your house, I've read that some people put their towels/robes in the dryer, take them out and put them in a cooler, then bring it out to their spa. They should stay relatively warm in there until your done soakin.

Nothing ruins a good sub freezing soak like a bathing suit.

Bring a robe out, as soon as you get out, put the robe on and kick the suit off under the robe.  As soon as you shed that wet material you'll feel better.

What do you guys prefer?  The soak at night to warm up before bed or the soak in the morning when you wake up cold?

My choice is both, but then again it's been getting well below freezing here at night again.

I like both but I soak just about every morning.  Can't say that about the nights.

When I'm by myself, I prefer morning soaks. If I have my lady friend over than I prefer night soaks.

I like both but really enjoy the morning soaks with a cup of coffee, 25F this morning, heavy frost, clear skies. sun rising. Does not get any better.

I guess if my wife was with me instead of sleeping in the bed would make it better  ::)
