For those of you out there who like to pinch pennies, here is a low-cost way to build a spa vac devised by our very own service tech Ronnie (pictured below on the right):

Materials needed:
A big ol' water jug (preferably Ozarka as it is a local industry)
Duct tape
Silvery duct tape
A check valve
A length of 1" tubing
Some filtering media
A rodent screen off'n a HotSpring Spa
Something to poke holes in the jug
Something to cut a hole in the other end of the jug
1. Â Stuff the filter media down in the water jug with a stick or something sticklike.
2. Â Take the water jug and stick a check valve in the opening. Â Duct tape it good.
3. Â Poke some drainage holes on the same end of the jug as the check valve.
4. Â Take the tubing and stick it in a hole you cut in the other end of the jug. Â Duct tape it good.
5. Â Wrap the rodent screen around the tube to provide support.
6. Â Suck crap out of the water and then let the water drain out through the holes.

Ronnie is a Marine and is greatly skilled at Rube Goldberging. Â He is damn near as good as McGyver. Â I saw him make a spoon out of some plastic wrap and duct tape last week to eat his soup at the fair.
