OK...so what does everybody do to prevent them from getting eaten alive by mosquitoes when they go in the tub at night? >:( :( :-/ :'(
Pesky critters are ruining my nightly soak...
-
I light tiki torches. Be careful not to put them to close to the tub--I've read some have left soot on their cover. They also make a mosquito bomb (by Raid I believe). It's kind of like a flea bomb.
Good luck getting rid of the skeeters!

I'm glad we don't have Mosquitoes in my area. Let us know if you find anything that works......

BATS! Lots and lots of bats.
It's VERY cool to watch them buzz around the hot tub eating those little buggers.
-
Do you have a lot of shrubbery close to your tub?
-
Try using a box fan to create a breeze. Of course keep it a safe distance away from the tub. ;)
-
The fan idea does really work for us and we have a lot of those critters.

Interesting. Where and how do you position the fan? Do you have any pics?

Not sure bats do much for the immediate annoyance of the mosquitos, but they are fun to watch. Austin is home to the largest colony of mexican freetail bats in N. America. Most live under the Congress Ave. bridge over Town Lake, but there is another huge colony under the I-35/McNeil bridge in Round Rock. My property has a small wet weather creek at one end and there are lots of limestone caves. We get a few bats in the evenings. Nice to watch the sun set and the bats come out, but by dark they have all moved farther out of town for better hunting.

Doesn't have to be a box fan...we use a fan that oscilates on a stand that puts it at just about the right level when set on the ground...away from water, of course...
-
Hmmmm.........I'd SO take mosquitos over BATS any day!! :D

Try not to go out at dusk or dawn. Mosquitoes tend to feed at that time. If all else fails and you're sure that they are coming from your property (grass, shrubs) - then chemically kill them.
-
Move to So Cal where you don't have to worry! A simple, seven-figure solution..... ;D
-
Its amazing the number of moquitos a single bat will eat in a night.
Mosquitos can't fly when there is a breeze so the fan idea works. Experiment to see where and how high to put the fan.

I'm with Leaky.
I moved from IL so SoCal in 1993. I knew the weather was better, but the best surprise was when I found out we don't have mosquitoes! (no fresh water lying around for them to breed in)
Of course, the worst surprise is something else we don't have: basements. :( As a rock musician, I really miss basements.

We use Tiki Torches as well; works like a charm. Usually by this time of year, though, the mosquitos seem to be gone :-?

try a little device called Therma-Cell. They sell them at most outdoor stores including wal-mart. It works better than anything I have found. It is portable so use it in the woods when camping, hiking, fishing, etc. and it also keeps flies away.

Thanks! I"m gonna give it a try. Here is a link to their website:

I still don't understand why SoCal does not have mosquitoes - SoCal certainly has yards with fresh water lying around for them to breek in. :-?
-
Its simply a trade off for no mosquitoes you have to endure earthquakes, wildfires,& mudslides. ;)

We do? Not in my neighborhood. We got 5 inches of rain this year. Puddles from a lawn sprinkler dry up quick. I'm at the coast, inland is even dryer.
SoCal is a big desert. We have ants & flies, (and fleas, man we got fleas) but no mosquitoes.
My Sister is in Dallas. They have some kind of mosquito misting system that they love. It's this company: http://www.mosquitoforce.com/index.html

I took Big Dog's advice and went and bought the Therma-Cell unit yesterday at Walmart. The clerk in the aisle said she JUST put them out. Sounds like they sell out as soon as they get them in. Anyway, we used it last night in the backyard while raking dirt and planting grass. Didn't get bugged by ONE mosquito! I paid about $25 for the unit....well worth the money so far! And there was no smell to it either. I do not like the smell of citronella candles, not to mention I don't think they work that great.

Glad to be of assistance. :)
We spend alot of time outdoors and I have not found anything that works as well.

After reading up on this device, we decided to try it out, as the little buggers are bad this year...more so than in past years. Anyway, got it home, set it up, turned it on....no mosquitoes :) Awesome! And we can take it camping too.
