Title: Lowering the Temp - how long?
Post by: bohms on June 16, 2007, 07:45:23 am
In warm weather (80's), how long should it take for the tub to drop 5 or 6 degrees?

A very long time!  8-)

The quickest way is to throw a garden hose in it and add water. A hot tub wants to do anything BUT cool down.

Ok, good.  I was asking this b/c our tub took about 4 days to drop 3 degrees and I thought something was wrong but my husband thought it should take that long if it was insulated properly.

Bohms,

Just out of curiousity, how low are you bringing it down and why?

Thanks,
Chad

Chad - we wanted to bring it down to about 95 or 96 from 101.  We just don't want it so hot in the summer months.  Sounds crazy, right?

Bohms:
I always drop the temp of the tub in the summer.  Here in the Mid-Atlantic States, we get very humid summers, so the high winter temp is acually uncomfortable in the summer.  I usually drop it to about 97 or 98 from 102, 103.  Below that it just doesn't feel right.

We do that too- usually bump down a few degrees when it gets hot.  Allows us to stay in longer.

Leaving the cover off will allow the heat to excape faster, btw.  Some people prop the edge up a bit with a tennis ball I've heard.
