Question about TDS

   How do you test for TDS?

Have your dealer do it.  There really isn't any point buying a meter for a test thats done 4 or 5 times a year

I started a discussion about TDS meters about 6 months ago and I came to the conclusion that they don't test true TDS ... I also came to the conclusion that replacing the water every 3 to 4 months is the best solution to combatting high TDS.

How do they test for TDS at a pool/spa store? I'm curious how the calculations are derived.

These aren't that accurate because they only test ions in the water and not the full load of gunk (ie: dead bacteria cells, human cells, dirt, ...). The meter works by seeing how fast the charge goes from 1 test probe to the other ... the therory is the more ionic stuff in the water the faster it will travel.

Unless we're talking about a lab grade analyzer, I would imagine they all are inaccurate.
