Thinking of putting a privacy fence around the tub. Any suggestions in terms of what looks good?

you mean just around the tub or an entire yard?

what are the details?
people looking in from next door?..upstairs?
people looking in from street or alley?

you need how many sides private?

Try doing a google search for "privacy fence designs".  There are lots of websites where you can get ideas of different designs.  Some also offer prints from which to build from.

Good luck.

What Zep said is true, you have to analyze what your trying to block.

Generally a 6' high fence is the best for privacy. Make sure if it's just around the tub that you leave space to walk around the tub, approx 2' on each side.

If you have enough space a living fence is the way to go. Bambo grows like a weed and forms a nice 20' high screen.

As far as regular fencing, it depends on your taste and the design of your home. I like the 6' high with the top 1' with lattice. I just saw a similar fence where the top 1' had what looked like railing balisters instead of lattice. I like the idea of not a solid 6' high fence.

Definately do a web search as tubless suggested.

I live in a townhome community, so all my neighbors are right "on top" of me. Actually, the basement of the people behind me, is level with my 2nd floor. So they really are on top of me. I opted for the full privacy panels for this reason instead of the panels that have the top 12" lattice. I'll sacrafice some looks for some privacy anyday. Also, I like exterior things to be as maintenance free as possible. Thus is why I went with the pvc. Plus it's a cleaner look. Here's a pic......

But WHYNOT....If the yard is tiny....and you are
placing a privacy fence "around the tub" then it is in effect
the "entire yard".

If it is not a tiny yard it may call for a different approach.

I am just trying to get a visual image before offering a solution.

Thanks to all for the helpful tips. The yard itself is fairly large with a chain link fence currently in place. Since we back onto a large field, my intent is to put up a fence around the tub, to create privacy from the field and our neighbors. I like WHYNOT's setup, however would do 3 sides as opposed to 2 sides (leaving the side facing the house empty).

Also have considered bushes or trees, however am concerned about them attracting more bugs around the tub. Bamboo will not grow up here in Canada due to the climate.

Styx.....are you really not interested in putting up a nice wood fence?

With the school over the way and development seemingly heading
your way it seems like a nice wood fence is what will be needed
eventually.

It appears if you want to keep your "view" it may even work to put
a short wood fence that would give you a significant amount of privacy
but still allow you to see your "view" of the rolling terrain near your
home. BTW....very nice set-up and spa!

If you don't want a whole new fence I suppose you could do a
slightly larger version of this with your choice of material....

or maybe a nicer version of something like this?

Zep, wood fencing in not out, however I'm concerned how it would look. The field behind is a city park and will never be developed. The view is nice however with the number of people walking in the park, we don;t have much privacy when in the tub. Since we already have the chain link, if we did put up a wood privacy fence just around the tub, I'm wondering if it will look odd? Do not want t a full fence around the entire yard as we do not want to lose the view entirely.

If we do a fence, it will look a lot like WHYNOT's, however on 3 sides and not 4.

My other question, will plants/bushes/shrubs attract a lot more bugs?

Styx....

Gotcha....I better understand where you are coming from.

I wonder if at first...before you spend much money....
you might consider painting the entire chain-link fence
black like you see at tennis courts....in my opinion
black chain-link has a more classy look.

Then you could place black mesh in the parts of the
chain link fence just where you need the privacy.....
I bet being all black (the fence and the mesh) that it
would all blend in and look pretty good and still allow
for the view.

Your fence would look like this:

And then the part you need more privacy could have the mesh like this:

Zep, I like the black fence idea with the mesh.

Another reason for putting up something closer to the tub is wind resistance. Since we back onto the field, it gets fairly windy in the tub on cold nights. Having something bloking the wind would make it more comfortable in the tub!
