replacement cover clip
« on: April 03, 2007, 09:04:42 am »
Anywhere to get a replacement spa cover clip?  The upper clip that is sewn on the strap that hangs down from the cover broke.  If you can get a new clip, how to you get it on the strap to replace the broken clip, it is stitched on?  Don't want to have to cut the strap or have to have a new one stitched on...that seems like a real pain.  Is there an upper clip made that has a slit in the top of the slip so it could be slipped on?
                                                        Thanks

I broke mine the day I got my tub and the dealer fixed it.  Basically he broke the old clip to get it off and then cut the new clips middle bar so that it could slide into the loop on the strap...kind of like a paperclip?
Anyway give you dealer a call, I think this is the kind of thing that happens all the time.

I've broken a few of these the first time,  my dealer tossed me a few extra of the "male" clips that are slotted. I had to cut off the old broken plastic one, and the new one was slotted and simpley slid on.

Recently my nephew broke them again, and the dealer told me I had to order new clips. ($8.00).  I received 2  complete male and female clip units and was told to "snip" a slot so that I could slip the new clip onto the strap. I'm not sure if I want to "snip" the plastic, but maybe take a hack saw blade and carefully cut a notch.  :)

I've replaced all mine, used a kit similar to what Zep posted.  Felt kinda strange cutting the clips, but the only other possibility is to undo and resew the strap-
which is out of the question.

If I recall, I used a utility knife.  The plastic cut relatively easy.

Coulnd't find the laser, Dr. Evil must have not yet returned it.  That's what I get for lending my tools to someone named Dr. Evil.

did you use a No 6 or No. 5 blade?  Did you use a cutting action or more of a sawing action?  Do you have pics? can you recomend the best way to cut it? What brand knife did you use?  Isn't this something that should be covered under warrenty?  Should I be going after my dealer about this? I've was sent hotspring clips, but my cover is a tiger river, will this make a difference?  I'll do a complete water change out and wash the filters before doing this....thanks!

If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

You guys crack me up! ;D

In the winter (before we got a tub), I spend a lot of time on snowmobile related forums but now I find myself lurking here instead.  I never have much to post because I'll I can say is "I love my tub" and that would get boring for everyone very quickly.
