« on: March 03, 2007, 10:32:28 am »
Ok, all you hardcore soakers, look up to the sky tonight for a visual delight!   It's a lunar eclipse!
I'm not sure what time the eclipse takes place, but I'm sure you find more info online or by watching the news.

Happy soaking,

The entire event will be visible from Europe, Africa and western Asia. In eastern Asia, moonset occurs during various stages of the eclipse. For example, the Moon sets while in total eclipse from central China and southeast Asia. Western Australia catches part of the initial partial phases but the Moon sets before totality. Observers in eastern North and South America will find the Moon already partially or totality eclipsed at moonrise.

In the United States, you have to be in the eastern half of the country to see the total eclipse. At the end of the day on Saturday, go outside and face east. As the sun sets in the western skies, a red Moon will rise before your eyes. Maximum eclipse is at 6:21 p.m. EST. The next total lunar eclipse will occur on August 28 this summer

here is the time and detail regarding the eclipse.....ask a rocket scientist to interpret it for you.  but it seems like the eclipse begins at moon rise and as the earth rotates in to the path of the sun fully blocking its light at that point is a total eclipse, night goes on, moon sets.....i am in bed.......some of this i remember from 8th grade science class......wow, i cannot remember when i took that class..........

No kidding! We were out tubbing at about 8, and the moon was only about 1/2 way up, but it was crazy-bright!

Sounds like we miss out on the eclipse, though..... :(

Yeah - I guess we get too many other good things, so this one had to go to the poor folk who don't get to live in paradise.

No, Chris!

This was just a little gift for Anne - this was not a 'Stumpinator' image.

Relax fella - don't waste your creative juices too early in the day.

Total and utter cloud cover here, oh well.  Last night was super bright too, I went "stealth mode" (no headlights) for 20 seconds or so on one of the back roads coming home last night, and I could see perfectly.

Thank you Chas! Very cool. That was actual footage from tonight, right?

And thanks for your version, too, Term. The moon will never look quite the same ever again....... who turned into Yoda?

Looks like you really had to have a great view of the eastern horizon or be a good deal further east than Atlanta to see the total phase. By the time the moon cleared the tree line at about 10-12 degrees of altitude it was already about a third of the way out of the umbral shadow here.

By the time I got the camera set up it was nearly 2/3 clear of the shadow.

Not the worlds best photographer and getting the aperture just right proved a challenge!
