I know many on here, myself included, started the quest for a hot tub at the big box stores, like Home Depot...
Here is an example of what can happen...and why you are so much better off going with name brand tubs.

Most interesting is that they let them keep the tub for free.... as long as they didn't have to honor a warranty. Tells you how much confidence the mfg has in the tub. It's cheaper for them to give her the tub than to be saddled with fixing it when it breaks.

Actually, the company that INSTALLED the new hot tub didn't do a few minor thing correctly. This is all that APPEARS to have swayed the manufacturer to offer a refund to the customer with the understanding that there wouldn't be a warranty on this now "free" spa.

Me thinks there's probably a bit more to this story

And then they gave her the money back?

Or did they offer to replace it with an updgraded tub, but then just give her back her money?

Well, I haven't been a Jacuzzi dealer for about ten years, but back when I was, they made it very clear that Jacuzzi was a brand name, and they expected us to protect it. They went around suing people who missused it - for example, a local Motel had a nice sign out front which read, "jacuzzi in every room."

A legal rep sent them a cease and desist order, that is, unless they could prove they had Jacuzzi products. And then, they wanted the name spelled correctly and a TM next to it.

I'm sure they don't have the cash to go around chasing motel signs these days, but as far as I know, nothing has changed. Jacuzzi is a registered trade mark, and a brand name. Spelling it with a small j is basically a typo.

I know that if you use "Jacuzzi" in your meta tags on a web site which is not affilitated with Jacuzzi.... well I'll leave it at that.

  Within a few months to a year we were told that Jacuzzi is going to go after that very thing,not hotels and such.  But these low buget spa company's that use the Jacuzzi name to sell there spas, and direct internet traffic to there web sites.
