3 On Your Side: Hot Tub Problem Solved

Feb 1, 2007

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA

A hot tub is supposed to help soothe your aches
and pains. But after buying one for her back yard, all one woman got was
hot under the collar. 3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan has the details.

When the hot tub starting falling apart, she was getting the cold shoulder

Before Susan Loesch bought the pricey back yard hot tub, she did lots
of research.

"We were crazy about it; we used it all the time," said Susan.

But within six months, bubbles weren't just found in the water, they
were popping up in the shell.

"We said wow, there is a bubble there and it was cracked,"
explained Susan.

There were bubbles and cracks in several spots.

"For the price that I paid for the Jacuzzi, I didn't expect a hole to come up
in it," explained Susan.

The hot tub was made by a company called Keys Backyard; Susan
had purchased it online through Home Depot.

But getting it repaired was easier said than done.

"When you call internet sales, they refer you to the manufacturer,
who refers you to somebody else, to somebody else,"
said Susan.

When nothing happened, Susan called 3 On Your Side.

When 3 On Your Side contacted the manufacturer, they offered to
replace the spa with an upgraded model, and weeks later they did.

"These people did not want to move, they didn't want to budge, but when
you guys got on my side, they jumped and went to work," said Susan.

"I have to thank Channel 3 and you Jim, because if it wasn't for you guys,
I wouldn't have this for free," said a happy Susan.

So how did Susan end up getting the hot tub for free?

The people sent by the manufacturer to install the new hot tub didn't
do it right
.

Rather than correct a few minor problems, they instead refunded her
purchase price and let her keep the hot tub for free without a warranty.

If you have a problem and don't know where to turn, you can always give
us a call on the 3 On Your Side hotline. The number is 1-877-solved 3 and
we'll do our best to help you out.

Yeah right  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

Wonder how long it will be before the new "keys Backyard" hot tub falls apart.  Remember children, you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get!!  (well, at least most of the time  ::))
People suffer one of two pains in life:  the pain of discipline, or the pain of regret

I hear ya. :D
If one makes a purchase as large as a tub w/o veiwing sites like these nowadays, they're either wealthy and just buy whatever is the most expensive from the most recognized manufacturer or just a flat out financial loser waitin' to happen. It's probably the same people that go to the Casino every week, with their paycheck, in hopes of the easy way out.

You noticed that too!!!

Let me translate:

"I looked around and this was the cheapest one I could find. It has a good warranty (I know because I have a piece of paper that says so) and hey, a hot tub is a hot tub!".
220, 221, whatever it takes!
