When I bought my Vanguard six month ago, I had the money to pay cash for it, but the salesman offered me a six month no payment, no interest deal. So I figured why give away the cash, when I can make that money earn for six month.

Dec. 18 is the day the loan is due, so I figured I'd close it a week early just to be on the safe side. I went to the bank and they told me I had to pay $600 in interest to close the loan. So of course I went back to the dealer and asked them what was going on. After tree days of looking at the records, they called me back and said the salesman made a mistake when he did up the paperwork and that they will cut me a check for the amount.

The nice thing is that they did not argue or try to get out of it. Makes me feel good to have then as my dealer on one hand, but not so good on the other hand.

Plus I dont think its a matter of trusting the salesman. Its not like he gets anything for starting the financing a week earlier. The only thing he is gunna get is flack from his boss. So he probably just screwed up. You can't tell me the only people that do that are salespeople.

I don't think that's a mistake. That's just not having a clue about what financial options your store is offering. That's being to cocky (or dumb) and not asking someone if you are not sure. It's not like the sale depended on whether or not I was able to get financing, I had the cash. He was even going to lower the price by $100-$200 if I paid cash.

No he did not start financing early, it was never an interest free deal. He just assumed it was.

So then I do agree with you. He is an idiot. No salesman sets someone up for financing if the customer is paying cash. The company takes a hit for doing the financing, and its more paperwork, which he obviously is not good at.

These programs have number codes that you add to the sales slip.  He/she may have superimposed a number creating a different program.  Or he /she was a moron...
