A rat in the tub

I now have heard two stories of a rat getting in and wrecking the tub. How do they get in. The point:  my tub is wood panel, screwed tightly?

Mice and rats seem to be made of jello and are capable of squeezing through spaces that would seem to be impossible to get through. Since it is warm on the inside I can see why they would like it there. Might be space under the panels bottom edge or perhaps where the power cord comes out.

Think I will open mine up now that cold weather is approaching and just make sure it is unoccupied and closed up as tight as I can get it!

Our local exterminator says that if you can slide a pen or pencil into an opening (under a door, etc.) a mouse can get in. Their skulls are only about 1/3" thick, so if the skull can get through, the rest can too. Yuck.

I always keep mouse poison in the equipment area, along with other remedies such as mouse away, moth balls, dryer sheets...I've tried them all.  No mice though.

This is a great proactive idea and I'll get some D-Con this weekend.

Just be sure that the critters can get back out to die.  If they can't, you will have a far worse smell than the smell you get when you open the cover.  It won't be nice.

Just be careful where you put it. Not trying to preach, but you'd be amazed at the number of people who think that either a) their dog wont be able to find the decon, or b) it just kills rodents, not other animals, or c) "hmmmmm....Fido ate the decon, but he looks fine, so let just watch him carefully for a few days..."

The worst critter we ever found in a spa was this fat, naked beastard in a P.O.S. spa we hauled off for someone who traded it in for a HotSpring.  His English was so-so, but he claimed he was a spa assembler up in Colorado who fell asleep during his job installing reflective foil insulation.  A coworker who wanted his job sealed him up in the cabinet and delivered him to Texas.  He managed to survive the last 3 years by chewing on the plumbing and extracting undissolved solids from the bypass valves, pumps, and heaters.

We loaned him a pair of pants and the last I heard he was back at his old job.

His inquiry was answered simply by my pointing at the name of the culprit who writ that piece, and saying "Terminator".
