what's it worth?
« on: July 12, 2007, 11:39:18 am »
We recently bought a new home, including a 2000 Artesian Bronze Class hot tub. We are looking to sell it to my sister. Tub is in great shape, the wood panels are in great shape, all around it looks very good

What is a fair price for this?

IMHO
It's your sister, give it to her.  You got it as part of the new house.  (Since you are willing to part with it, the spa must not have been a purchasing point).  Let her pay to have it removed, installed etc   :)

But does it run flawlessly? I'd rather have a tub that looks so-so and runs great than a great looking tub that has issues. It's not new but it's not that old either (and its a good brand) but have you seen it running with water in it?

I don't think they make the "bronze series" any more do they? wasn't this replaced by the Ilsand line?  Platinum and gold are  the upper end line, so I would assume the Bronze was the "Budget line"

Given it's a 7 year old used budget tub, I can't imagine it's worth more than 1K, if that. Check out criags list and local want ads to compare what used spas are going for.

As Spatech said, it's your sister. She will need to move it (pros charge $500 to do this) Hire an electricain ($500-1000) and then chems, maybe a new cover, filter.... does she have a palce to put this? A pad or deck? That's another grand for a cement pad or upgrade to a deck. (pavers or a spa pad could work too, but that's at least $300).  Shes looking at spending a few grand to get into this Tub, even if you do give it to her.

You don't want it? Give it to her. You don't even know how well it works. If it has any leaks, or how well it's been taken care of.  the condition of the pumps, the heater, the interior framework, the cover. etc.

Taking a wild guess...at best you could advertise it for about 1K and sell it to a stranger "as is". You'd  be lucky to get $500.   But if you sell it to your sister and it breaks. ...ugh.

If your sister takes it, give her the sub panel and power line too (if you are not going to insall a new tub).

Blood is thicker than water. No matter how hot and bubbley the water is.

FWIW, on "what's it worth"

on the main board,  we're talking about buying a used tub that's about 7 years old, and it seems the asking price is about 1K.

thanks for the info - I'll go for the 1k since I need it for new windows in that room and she has the dough and is willing to part with.

thanks again

In that case, ask $1200. ;)

Ask $3000, but negotiate down to $1000.  She'll save thousands.
