Sundance 880 owners--leave waterfall on 24/7?
« on: October 31, 2006, 03:51:01 pm »
Got to thinking the other night (always a bad thing!).  I wasn't running the waterfall on our Optima much during our first week so I started wondering if that meant water was stagnating in the pipe that feeds it.  Being so paranoid about water quality, I've since turned it on at a very low-flow setting and left it that way to make sure water is always running through that pipe.

Is this a good idea, overkill, or somewhere in between?  I'm imagining that there HAS to be water in that line, so if the waterfall isn't running then that water isn't being filtered and sanitized...

Not familiar with the newer Optimas, but do they still have that daily blowout cycle at noon, where everything turns on for a few minutes?  That's what mine does, but it's a 2003 Optima, and no waterfall.  But all other pumps and the blower activate to circulate stagnant water.  Maybe your Optima does this too, including the waterfall?

It does have the daily blowout of all pumps, but the waterfall runs off the circ pump and is controlled by a knob.  If the knob is completely closed there's no way water can come out of the waterfall, whether the electronics want it to or not...

I leave it on at a low rate at all times.  When I've left it off and then turned it back on the water coming out was cold so it wasn't circulating with the rest of the water.  Can't hurt to leave it on to keep the water mixing with the rest of the tub.

I agree, a very slow trickle is all you need.

That's also true of any unused seats or water features.

My dealer told me that every so often they get calls about stuff in the water only to find out that people have't used a seat or something else for a long time ... I keep all my jets and seats on all the time so the blowout and whenever the pumps are turned on moves water through them. I don't want none of that stuff in my pipes.

My owners manual says as much, as well- to keep controls set in such a way that all jets are open during non use times.

Nor do I- and I don't want any in my spa's pipes, either! ;)

I leave my waterfall going about 1/8 of a turn open 24/7/365 in my Maxxus.
