Spa Drink Holders.......?
« on: October 19, 2006, 03:50:10 pm »
Has anyone on this MB ever drilled into their own spa shell to add decent drink holders?

(ps: I know...I know....it would void the warranty on the shell)

Not a chance! But I have several flat areas to put drinks and, like several other brands I think, the top of my filter cover flips over to provide several adequate drink holders should I need them. So far hasn't been a big issue.

My tub is only 6 inches higher than the deck surrounding it so I got loads of places to set drinks.

But I would avoid drilling into the shell and possibly build a small side table to drill into.

The only decent place to put a drink on our spa is the filter cover.  They sell this rubber thing that fits into the filter cover with holes to hold glasses for $35!!!!!!!! :o  :o  :o

My solution was to take some "drawer liner."  The kind that is kind of thick and has holes in it but does NOT have sticky stuff on either side of it.  I cut the liner to the shape of the filter cover and it "grips" our glasses just fine.  I've had the same piece for over four months and it hasn't molded or deteriorated in any way.  Can't beat the price, either!!!  :)

Thanks guys....some good advice

I have a very close friend that is an expert in customizing gauges and instruments in boats......he drills/cuts holes in fiberglass and places stereos, gauges, tv's, and all kinds of things in boats/fiberglass. He works on very high end boats....so nothing he does is sloppy or looks like hell after he is finished.

So I am considering having him place these type of steel drink holders in the four corners of the tub where the current "so called" drink holders from the factory are. As you can see in the picture below...the drink holders from the factory are little more than a small lip....not really drink holders at all practically speaking.

I have thick skin.....tell me if and why you think I am crazy?....LOL

Ummm.....then why did my CalSpa dealer come out and replace a jet
for me under warranty and another time just stop by and check to see if
everything was going ok?......Ummmm

Hey I'm just joking man, actually my Canadian Marquis representation is sh!!ty.  Doug at Foxx pools, the Eastern Canadian rep will not return my calls.  He is too busy I guess.
Back to the cup holders, there is no way I would cut into the shell unless OK'd by the mfg, even out of warranty.

My $0.02 - I wouldn't do it.

Voiding a warranty could be very costly IMO. I wonder how far a dealer would take the "damage" idea - Shell, most likely; jets, electronics and possible water damage - ???

What I find is my filter lid's holders are always filled with water, I wouldn't want to have to empty something that's 3" tall.

Zep,

It looks as though you have plenty of flat area around your spa to place NON-GLASS drink vessels.  Why do you feel the need to add the inserts?  Like yours, my LSX has AMPLE flat surface and, like mine, I'm sure your spa doesn't move around much.... ;).....so why the holders?

Deep recessed cup holders, without a drain hole  would hold the water, no? Not sure if thats the "Best" idea. Water could get dirty, stagnet, freeze up.....

My tup has several flat, slightly recessed places for drinks and they work fine. If your tub doesn't have any, or they' don't work as you'd like, maybe adding a side caddy/table could help out?

windsurf and drew.....thats true.....I do have alot of flat
surfaces but it just seems like drunks are gonna knock them over
and then you have diet coke & rum in your tub and a "oh I'm sorry".

IF i do this....I may also have the same guy place an automatic
sump pump inside my tub shell and I could have the cupholders
drain into the same lines as the sump pump drains....they make the
same cupholder that has a drain made into it. The sump pump would
have several drain lines....the main drain on the floor and also little
drains in the seats so every last drop would be sucked out....I would
think it would be easy to run drains from the cupholders into the same
drain lines.

but who knows..... I am not going to rush in to anything.
and may not do any of these customizations.
I'll let ya know if I do.

i appreciate your thoughts and feedback....

Thanks!

use one of those!
