stairs for the maxxus?
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:59:47 pm »

Hi Everyone,

I'm just getting my new maxxus in today. The stairs are a joke. The nice stairs that we saw at the homeshow warp so they are selling it with these piddley ass plastic steps. I am shocked Sundance doesn't jump on this as the Maxxus is a very expensive spa.

Has anyone heard anything about new stairs for the Maxxus?

thanks for any feedback.

What is the brand of the steps?

I'm guessing they are probably Leisure Concepts Dura Steps.  This is a very quality step, but doesn't have the allure in the looks department.

If you paid well enough for the tub, you could always talk to the dealer and see if they will get you some steps from a company like California Design Group or A&B Accessories.  A&B steps are wooden, but you can get some really sharp-looking steps from them.  I recommend the Sunburst style.

As an addendum, Sundance cannot tell a dealer which steps to carry in their spa packages as long as that dealer is upholding their sales, service, and customer support reputation.

martyz4,

I have a Maxxus as well and could not agree more!  The steps included with our tub, although look nice are a piece of crap.  I spoke with my dealer and they are currently looking for a better quality step.  He assured me once they find one, they will replace our squeaky, flimsy, el-cheap-o steps with some new ones.
Please keep me posted if your dealer comes up with something before mine does.

The steps we sell with the Sundance
Maxxus are from Sundance and are
constructed of the same material and
are curved to match the contour of
the front of the cabinet.  They are
quite expensive but they look great.
There are plenty of other step and
accessories manufacturers, perhaps
you have one of those products
instead ???

mjb,

I agree the contour of the steps looks great, however, the steps are made very poorly.  After just over a month, mine are creaking like a set of 30 year old basement steps.
I agree there are plenty more options out there, however, my feeling is since I paid nearly $13k for my tub, the steps should be top quality as well.
In fact, my dealer has had so much trouble with the contour step they are now providing customers with the 30" step until they can find a suitable replacement.

The Everwood steps made by Hot Spring are resin and are SIGNIFICANTLY heavier duty than the Durastep that I was offered with my Caldera Geneva purchase.  I turned down the $90 Durastep.  They come in Gray, Redwood and a Cocoa/Espresso color.  I am going to go into a local HS store and see if the Gray is available.  $200+ I think but in my opinion worth it.

The A&B are very nice for wood products.  They have bars, surrounds, steps, etc.  The Hot Spring steps are nice, too.  They are not cheap, but they are HEAVY duty.

I don't have any problem with the steps that came with my '05 Maxxus.  The steps are made of molded plastic and conform to the contour of the Maxxus perfectly.  They are sturdy, and look as good as they did a year ago.

On a side related question how tall is each step on a two tier step?  Being a woodworker, I would like to make my own wrap around steps to match my decking material.

Also, does anyone have the shelf that goes around the outside of the spa from A&B, or something like that?  Do you like it?  I have a bit of extra material and might consider building that was well.

Can you tell I am anxious for my spa to arrive?

Holy crap this would be perfect for my new spa setup...anyone own any of this company's products?  I wonder how much work it is to keep the wood looking good?  Also how do you know if the curve of the steps would match the spa's shape exactly?  I guess giving them my make and model could help!  ;)

Anyone know the cost of soemthing like this?  Thanks.

The steps that came with our Maxxus are made from particle/chip board, and are quite flimsy.  If my dealer does not come up with a better replacement by spring, I will most likely build steps myself around 2 sides of the tub.
